.my grandad had a foundry here in the UK. The melting shop wasnt clean with all the black sand but the machine shop was. It takes incredible skill to produce these castings i salute your skills

I can honestly say I would 100% be interested in a vise kit offering. I am just starting to learn how to use machine tools and make things in that manner, and the heart of that skill set is a good vise. I have more vises than I need now but the ability to make my own vise that is part of that is probably the coolest idea I can think of. To be the one to have made the tool that gets used everyday in the pursuit of learning and making other things is beyond cool. Pencil me in for 2 now. I don’t really care how much they would cost.

I know what you mean about going out in the work area and becoming overwhelmed by the disorganization. My garage is a total hell hole. Every time I go in the garage , I look at the mess and say " Where do I start " and then wind up turning around and walking away.

Clark, Here in the UK hobby machinists like myself and model steam enthusiast have a difficult time sourcing small cast iron sections. Likely the same applies in the US of A. It occurred to me that you could when moulding up use square or round sections in the gating which would deliver a second product for no effort. Maybe something worth your consideration. Thanks for another interesting video.

Lads, to get a glaze finish and strip out the pattern the use of graphite is a great help. The graphite when casting causes a film of gas which stops the molten cast iron going into the sand and giving a rough finish thus reducing fettling time. I think with the basic equipment your working with your doing great.

Years ago, when the kid was in scouts, the troop met in an aviation service shop. It was cleaner than some ERs. Yes, you could smell oil and solvents. OTOH, every surface was spotless.

Strong magnets - ask around some computer friends, and score some disk drives (people are throwing them out) - each 3 1/2 inch drive has two very strong magnets, if you are willing to open the drive (angle grinder through the screws works if you don't have small torx drivers).

I am one of those guys who chase organization and efficiency in all i do (because i enjoy it). I hate clutter, and the best way to fix it is to be organized. Make routines for the shop, make rules for your self, and make rules for the equipment. Its a exercise in self control. To resist the urge to go straight home after a tiresome day, and instead spend an extra 5-10 mins putting stuff back. And also make time for small breaks during the day for putting stuff back and cleaning up. I fail at those rules frequently, but then i pay the price the next day. And i regret it. My aim is that unless i am currently in a process that require tool X, then that tool should be in its given place on the wall, drawer or shelf.

I would be interested in one of your vises even if its made in the other foundry - I assume you are thinking of a metal working type bench vise? Will you consider making a woodworking type vise also?

Clarke, I'm figuratively sitting on top of my mountain. Here is my view. You just keep doing you. If the world doesn't like it, they aren't paying you enough anyway. I like your videos and you get no complaints or smart-ass comments from me. There is a very low probability that I could get a vice kit from you. But I like the idea. dave

I already mentioned that I am very interested in the new square, and I would be really interested to hear more about the vise you have planned. Not too thrilled to hear "gray iron, not ductile iron". That might be a showstopper for me. Gray iron pretty much takes their value away for me. I hope you stick with ductile.
