Jose Y. Dalisay Jr., or Penman, as his blog and Philippine Star readers, as well as his fellow-fountain pen enthusiasts know him, is quite the collector. Murphy Report features his 200-odd carefully selected pens are housed in glass cases, each one turned just so, their bodies, subtle details, and intricate finishing all vying for your attention. Never without a pen or two in his shirt pocket-feeling naked, otherwise-he has developed a habit of taking his pens for walks around UP Diliman campus, or whiling the time away scribbling on clean sheets of paper in between his many book projects.

Nice thoughts, this gentleman says what we always think but didn´t tell anyone. I´m 71 years old and I also collect FP, having some 300 of them, but only a dozen of the higher priced; I have found that many of the low cost FP are equally efficient than the high priced ones. And I love them all !

Dr. "Butch" I wanted you to know that I have watched this short video many times. Your mastery of the English language is quickly detected by your description of the FP's and how you use them in your life. I am a rather new collector and have but 22ish. However, for whatever ti means, I see myself being like you in about 30 years. Semper Fi -Josh Burks

I enjoyed watching this video very much and it's good to know other Filipinos (and other nationalities as well) that collect pens. I'm the only one in my Filipino group that does and it is refreshing to see my fellow countrymen appreciate this when it seems handwriting is a lost art and to admire the intricate artwork labored into these fine writing instruments. Well, my story started with my grandfather and it passed on to me. From his old collection of Pelikans, Parkers, Sheaffers and Watermans, I eventually started building my own collection when I was able to afford it during the 1990s with a variety of pens from Montblanc Meisterstück, Montblanc Writer Series, Namiki Maki-e, Montegrappa Limited Edition, Cartier and Caran d' Ache. It's been 30 years now and I still have an admiration for these fine instruments -- old and new. I do understand the financial investment every pen collector does for their own collection but the rewards are far greater, even priceless.

Cool pen collection and fun story I do agree that this world has lost all form of intimacy and writing a letter is really personal...I started collecting pens and watches for that exact reason to just have fun and disconnect from the modern world..love the video

An excellent spokesperson for the pen collecting hobby. Many of his astute observations about the aesthetic joys of fountain pens resonated with me. Couldn't help but also admire Mr. Dalisay's taste in watches. The Bell & Ross was easy to spot, but am wondering about the other one...a Tudor Submariner?

Hi. Switching again to fountain pens as well (used to have 3 and 3 inks but I gave it away to a maid coz' they're finicky and requires more maintenance) but now I carry a small notebook coz' writing is good for the well being and you don't forget things with a small back pocket notebook, avoiding resin pens (aka plastic but celluloid is kind of ok coz' it's mostly plant material) unless they're demonstrators (transparent or translucent). God bless, Proverbs 31

The most vital part in using and carrying the fountain pen is: coz' it usually has a great tactile feel, it, scientifically enhances the thinking, helping out write thing better, like how classical music helps you relax. 1938 Parker Vacumatic - $150 (mid range price fountain pen) Montblanc Hemingway - $900 to $1000 Parker Big Red - $50 Bell & Rose, BR S Black Matte watch - $1,500 God bless, Proverbs 31

These days, unless they are Namiki pens, it’s not worth collecting too many sub-expensive pens. Namiki pens triple and quadruple in value. Rare one quintuple as well. Sure, Fountain pens are nice. All you really need is a good set though. I prefer Rotring pens instead when doodling. Nowadays, writing is now on Digital Tablets with digital pens. Don’t be Alipen to your pen collection. It is more fun in the Philly-pens 🇵🇭 😮😅😊😂
