Four instructors from an Iowa college who were visiting their partner university were injured in a park in northeastern China on Monday in a stabbing incident, according to a school spokesperson. The instructors from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, were at Beishan Park in Jilin City with a faculty member of their partner institution when they were injured “in a serious incident,” school President Jonathan Brand said in a statement. Social media video of the aftermath shows three people lying on the ground and covered in blood while waiting for first responders. The stabbing comes at a delicate time for US-China relations. The two powers are seeking to strengthen people-to-people exchanges at a time of deep tension. No American students were targeted in Beishan Park, but the incident could discourage some young Americans from going to China. CNN's Kristie Lu Stout reports.
