Four Arrows: "Indigenous Spirituality" A Matter of Significance"

Four Arrows, aka Don Trent Jacobs, is currently a professor at Fielding Graduate University. This is a talk given at the conference, Sustainable Wisdom: Integrating Indigenous Knowhow for Global Flourishing, which took place at the University of Notre Dame in 2016.

Wonderful presentation by Four Arrows on the real 'dialogue' within us all today. The issue is whether both brain hemispheres are communicating. All humanity's worldwide ancestors are 'Indigenous' (Latin 'self-generating') vs 'Exogenous' (L 'other-generated'). Because of intermarriage its estimated that 70% of people on Turtle-Island (US & Canada) have 1st Nation blood. 85% of 1st Nations have blood from around the world. We are one people. Our challenge is to restore our ancestral indigenous COUNCIL PROCESS, whereby all people have the 'dialectic' ('both-sided') right to raise issues with another, whether positive in research & collaboration or negative in dispute resolution. CP gave everyone the right to ask for a formal Both-sided, Equal-time & circle-witnessed dialogue among those one might feel affected by. CP is an exacting process where those challenging must 1st consider their innate grouping & bring such questions before one's own 'Caucus' (Iroquois 'Grouping-of-like-interests'. CP builds up to where after council with one's own stakeholder group, one can then speak to various leader levels. Mohandas Gandhi as part of India's 'Swadeshi' (Hindi 'indigenous' aka 'self-sufficiency') program employed 'Satyagraha' (Hindi 'truth-search' aka 'Council Process') based upon simultaneous inquiry with both parties in dispute or re-search asking, "What are your best intentions & how can we help you fulfill these?". Gandhi, "I can imagine a fully armed man to be at heart a coward. Possession of arms implies an element of fear, if not cowardice. But true non-violence is an impossibility without the possession of unadulterated fearlessness." We need transparency in all levels of human solutions at home, school, media, business for all stakeholders. As Socrates proposed, dialectics (both-sided inquiry) should be the foundation of social & economic literacy both for collaborative-research & as necessity may arise for conflict-resolution. We had a talk by 4 arrows this evening at my uni. It was moving, the whole class were sort of speechless - and we’re studying transformation planning! To say this man is able to communicate well is an understatement. What a privilege 🙏

This man Four Arrows Donald Trent Jacobs is my full brother. He is lying here about our parents about our mother. She was in no part native American. He has lots of photos of Mom as I sent them to him of our Mother with lily white skin. He said here that Mrs. Bagwell was his second grade teacher, another lie. Mrs. Bagwell was his piano teacher at our home on Valdamere Drive, when he was 12-13 years old. I have his second grade report card from Daniel Boone School. The story about the lunchbox and the second grade students chanted Donnie's Mom is a squaw is a huge lie. Not one word is true. He never ran out of the class home. Not even a logical lie. Every book cover is a lie claiming to be a Cherokee Native blooded Indian. He even had me believing it for awhile and made a liar out of me!! Until I reseached and learned he is lying. . At the end he tries to justify his lies . He is mentally deranged. When I have confronted him, he turned out sister against me. She is 13 years younger than he is and his narcisitic control over her is dark. He has ruined our family relationships, He has hit me and hurt a surgical neck, he has grabbed me and put bruises on my arm. His works did not need lies. He IS an amazing person or he was. He let his ego take over his truth and has lied and lied about who he is. He has ruined his works as they are based on his lies and stories about our Mother and me and our sister and father. He invented lies to make hisself a victim. He did not have to do that! He does need to remember who he is. He is a white man of European ancestors-- English and Irish but no Native American as his DNA also proved. Native People have always accepted others into their tribe. His lies disrespect all Native Peoples who respected their elders . Not my brother he has denegrated our Mothers memory with lies about her and about me and my sister and our father. We grew up in a new home after WWIi with lots of block parties and and friends with all white counterparts. We all have fair skin complexions. Mom did too. She never hid her face with make up or ever spoke of Indians because she wasn't . it is all lies.

The heart drives the blood, never the other way around. Your blood is inherited, you can't do anything about that. But your heart drives that blood. You must use your heart to guide you, and your brain to figure out how to follow the guidance.

Four Arrows is a liar. He fabricated the story about our mother hiding her skin with make up. Never happened as she was NOT Native American at All! This is a fantasy of his deranged mind - he has advanced Narcissistic Personality Disorder. He has destroyed my relationships with my family as he knew I knew the truth, I never said anything until I started finding his articles shared with me from friends and colleagues with the insults and lies about our Mother. I am her voice. " Words today are usually a deception". He says this, he is correct about this, His words are deception. He did not have to lie about who he is. He has fabricated that he is Cherokee and lied about our Mother being so. She /We/ He is not Native American. He is delusional. He is a fraud. Our Mom had creamy white fair skin and held her head high. She did not run from a classroom while student chanted she is a squaw. Common sense should tell anyone that is B.S.as well.

At the end of the Q&A after Four Arrows’ presentation, an audience member asks about the concept of complementarity. How can we find complementarity between the holistic ways of Indigenous worldview and the divisive ways of Western worldview? Given how damaging the excesses of Western worldview have been to our psyches and our natural environment, how can anything from a worldview so out of step with the needs of the human soul and the rhythms of nature possibly complement the wisdom offered by Indigenous worldview? In a review of Four Arrows’ new book, Point of Departure, I explain that the complementarity between Indigenous worldview and Western worldview lies in the balance we are able to achieve between the two within ourselves: “Point of Departure does not claim that the holistic orientation of Indigenous worldview is unique to Indigenous peoples or that the individualistic orientation of Western worldview is unique to Western peoples. Rather, the holistic and the individualistic orientations are two halves of a single whole. Each is one half of the human mind. Thus each is a product of human experience. What Indigenous worldview shows is that Indigenous peoples actively worked to maintain a balance between the two by coupling their left-brain material experience with their right-brain spiritual experience. They were well aware of the risks of moving too far in one direction or the other.” In other words, complementarity between our individualistic selves and our spiritual selves is achieved when our outward left-brain actions are informed, or balanced, by our inward right-brain awareness of how our actions are part of a whole that is larger than ourselves. When individuals act holistically, there is complementarity between the Western lens and the Indigenous lens of our consciousness. Thank you for this. One of the most critical aspects in the Western world is the undermining of right-hemisphere development in early childhood. You end up with a person who doesn't have the capacities for receptive intelligence and earth-based living. I spoke about this at my talk at the conference and in the book Neurobiology and the Development of Human Morality: Evolution, Culture and Wisdom (contrasting the pathways to the two worldviews).

He is a liar. My brother is lying about who he is and about our mother. She / We/He is no part Native American . The story about our Mother is all lies. Our mother never hid her face with make up, she never had a thought about being an Indian as she was NOT. Not a word ever about this as it is not true. Our mother was a fair skinned creamy ivory complexioned woman who was never ashamed of her skin. His story is his fantasy. He suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder and has destroyed our family relationships gaslighting me his sister who use to be so very close until he did a 180 in personality lying about who we are and knowing that I knew the truth. I never said anything until friends started coming across the lies about our Mother and sharing them with me. He did not have to lie.

Not great He is not honoring his ancestors . He is a liar . Our Mom was not Native American , never hid her face with make up. His entire ID is fabricated. Our Mother is dead and was dead when he lied and could not defend himself. I am her voice now He has gaslit me for decades knowing I know the truth. I had no idea he was lying about our mother until several articles were shared with me by friends. I do not want My mothers grandchildren to find lies about her. I demand he applogize for he lies he fabricated. And demand that KZbin pull this video based on lies. He took Everything away from me calling me crazy and mentally ill gaslighting my family from me just because he lied about who he is and he did not have to!! He did not have to lie.
