Bomber Task Force season is upon us once more. This detachment again brings four B-52s from the 23rd Bomber Squadron at Minot AFB into RAF Fairford, where they will train will fellow NATO allies to improve interoperability. Plenty of noise & smoke all around for todays arrival day, I forgot how loud these are when up close!!

Three of these were based at Fairford during the first Gulf War and they used to fly right over my house at Faringdon, which was on the approach flightpath. It was strange to think that they were returning from actual bombing missons, and we used to run outside to wave at the pilots. @@myusername630 I think we all know that - and you are right it does look odd with the gear pointing to one side on a cross wind landing. FYI regarding the engines it is the RR F130 engine (already in use on the E-11A and C-37) and part of the reason for their selection is that they will use eight of them per aircraft, two per pylon, as direct replacement for the TF33. That simplifies ground clearance, throttle control issues etc.

Probably the safest feeling plane I’ve ever flown in. Your facing the tail and your on the top floor. We did drop a few thousand feet in a minute though.

Looks like GB Parliament's Defence committee chairman Sir Tobias Ellwood was absolutely serious saying about Article 5 of NATO Treaty. :)

so what's the emissions on these 😂😂 Back in 1999/1970 as a MT driver I was detailed to drive a USA bomber crew for a 6 week bombing exercise at RAF Marham great bunch of guys the gave me a tour of the inside of there B52 3 floors and the couch up front was for the tail gunner to lay down on then fire the rear guns. They also took me to there PX the T-Bone steaks were massive. At RAF Marham the Vulcans were based there on Sundays they would engine test a Vulcan run the engines full for 12 hrs the weekend glider club used the Vulcans exhaust heat to thermal climb happy days 😉
