My favourite knives through my nearly 40 years of bushcrafting, hiking and wild camping. The Mora, a large Bowie knife, the Cold Steel SRK and the TBS Boar. In this video I talk a bit about them all and why there is no such thing as a perfect knife.

My parents gave me a Case Bowie knife for high school graduation in 1977. Has seen a lot of use as a hatchet, machete, game skinner, camp knife etc. It's was used to kill a deer I was tracking while bowhunting. I built a selfbow with it from start to finish. I also learned making knife handles after breaking the original learning to throw it. Now I carry a smaller version when hunting that I made from a trap spring.

I have a number of " ancient Moras " which I clean and repurpose , great camp knives . Your Bowie looks like a Linder . The SRK I carried in the Army and the Boar looks like most bushcraft styles. I have a Helle Teragami . Cheers , GRIZZ 🐻

I just bought a mora companion, and have begun my journey to learn bushcraft, wilderness survival, etc. despite living in the middle of the sub urbs. Watching your vids has been a great insight and help on future knives! My dream is a TBS Boar Mk II, and your commentary only solidified it.

Great video, Thanks. One of my three sons was really into throwing knives into a big tree when we lived in Sydney and they were teenagers. I was unaware of this unfortunately (otherwise I would have joined in). The first time I realised was when I was mowing the lawn and my lawmower hit my lovely two bladed folding Boker knife (with the lovely bone handle) and sent it flying across the yard. It was at that time that I realised my lovely stag handled Gerber drop point skinner and a few other lovely knives were long gone. The Green River style kit knife I had made was safe as it wa under the seat of the truck, ready to cut ropes, etc. After that knives lived in the gun safe, haha! Once bitten, twice shy.

Nice knives. It is nice when we have had a knife for a while and had many adventures together. A good knife is probably the most useful and personal tool a man can own. I recently bought a caastrom lars falt after seeing your caastrom no. 10 in some videos and being impressed with the quality. I think in time caastrom will become a classic brand for bushcraft knives. And the price of them for the quality is just outstanding. I have only good things to say about caastrom. I advise people to get one as soon as they can before their prices increase... which i am sure in time they will. I can remember when fallkniven was a moderately priced brand and since then their prices have gone through the roof. The caastrom no.10 or lars falt will be all the bushcraft knife you will need and you cant go wrong with either IMO.

Good video. I use Mora bushcraft black as my small use and a Cold Steel Warcraft tanto as my heavy task( Love this Knife) I do have other ones but i like using those as im use to them. I think ill get a Mora 106 next as my everyday wood carving. I seen bush people use only one knife to build fire, shelter, cook, and carve fin task with a machete. I guess it's the skill of the person that makes a knife do what it dose.

I see the Boar and I just love it. Right now I have an ugly tactical knife (Gerber Strongarm) that I carry outdoors this summer. I like some features, but the bushcraft knives with leather sheaths just speaks to me. I think I’ll retire the Strongarm to be a car knife or something like that and I’ll get a Helle, a Casström or the Boar. Thanks Björn, great stuff!! 👍🏼🙏🏻⭐️

Great video, for me my first knife was the big brother of boar, the grizzly. If you haven’t used it before it really is a joy. Normally I don’t like big “survival knives” but the grizzly handles like a heavier boar and is great even for carving!

Hi Bjorn. Catching up on old videos so better late than never. Great to see you past choices and Just watched you vid with the Casstrom No10. In my teens about the same age I had a large Bowie similar to yours but hardly ever used it. [too big for me at that age I guess] I now have the TBS Boars as well, I progressed to the Casstrom No10, then onto the Lairs Falt. Recently I managed to get one of Sandy Jack’s Bushcraft classics [copy of the woodlore]. I love all of these knives but I too find myself reverting back to the TBS Boar a lot of the time. Does it carve as well as the others ? … No… But it is a reliable beast that splits wood when Battoning. If I have a load of carving to do intake one of the others, but for general use I grab the TBS.

You did a beautiful job making the knife handle Bjorn! I think this is my favorite. They are all good knives for different purposes and different jobs. I still have my first knife. It had a stag handle but the quality didn't allow it to hold together too well. The tongue for the handle is too thin. I may weld a piece of steel to the tang to anchor it better into that original handle and make a new sheath. I do my own bark tanning and I'll use the leather I've made for the job. I also make things from horn, like rattles and other carved objects. So I always notice those beautiful horn made items you have had in your videos. Thank You Very Kindly for everything! Your deep respect for Mother Earth always come through and can be felt very well. I think this is very important in this modern world that forgets about Mother Earth. To me the world is man made, how the human environment is created. But the real world is in Mother Earth and she provides everything in our lives and all lives. Native Americans say that the rocks are living and have been here since the beginning. They hold within them the entire history of our planet. As you spend more and more time in Nature, one will see very clearly that what the Native Peoples say is very true. Peace in the Powerful Energies of Mother Earth! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

As an fart you've made 4 great choices I do not have that scandy but do have one Mora nice but just to light for me I am a California boy and at 75 so I love the bowie and have to many and I have been carving everything the bush crafters think is some how on the seen as new now for some 65 years, first spoon at 8 years old I believe. All your choices are great and your honesty is very refreshing . As fare as describing the love of the blade it is very "subjective" as you say no one knife fits all needs. Happy Trails

When I started watching this video, I was sharpening my J. Maartinni Puuko knife that I have owned since 1985. About the same size and profile as your Mora. Also mine has a wooden handle, probably of Arctic birch. . Then when you brought out your Solingen Bowie, I looked up and smiled at my eagle-pommeled ROMO Solingen. Got that on the playground in the 6th grade (1969) from Ronnie Harwood. It cost me two dollars. Your taste in knives is impeccable. I love my Trailmaster but don't take it to the woods (or in my case the desert) very often. Just looks too "tactical". I usually end up taking my old Sheffield made Damascus 4.5 inch hunting knife. That has been with me for well over 40 years and like your current knife - it just fits me. Thanks for making this video.

I also have a Mora similar to yours, but it's the high-end made from special steel sandwich... very good and light... I carry it usually as my back-up knife. My favourite is a small puuko (although I have a "bushcrafter blade" similar to yours. I dare say that the puuko is the "perfect marriage"... not the lighest or strongest but the ine ai feel confortable with.! Stay well Björn!

My favorite part was you talking about custom shaping the scales to accommodate your grip with the shortened tendon. A warrior's blade for sure, even if it never sees a battlefield. And hopefully it does not. But I can imagine your descendants holding that knife 100 years from now... And because of that modification, it would be like a part of you was holding it with them still. Maybe I'm just silly. I don't care. ☺️

And culture has a lot to do with knife preference as well. The current blade you use is so reminiscent of the old Mora you started with. I have used my Marrttinni for over 30 years. That type of knife was uncommon here when I got it. Even then, I was only exposed to it because I was representing Rapala, and got it as a salesman's sample. They didn't bother to market them in the US back then. Just the filet knives. But they were always popular in your part of Europe I think.
