In my country months ago there was an episode like this... but the football player threw the poor dog over a fence 12 feet tall... he was banned for life, the club fired him and now he is giving interviews because he can`t find any job.... luckily the dog is fine!

Seen that video, I would sure like to pay him back on the dog's behalf but now that you mention the misfortune that the incident brought him, I feel little sorry for the guy. Maybe he did in the heat of the moment or he was really angry about something, we might never know the reason why he did that but instead of the authorities taking such an extreme step, maybe some alternative punishment like Anger Management sessions or Community Service hours where he helps stray animals would've been better in my opinion :)
