Serena Williams was probably surprised by her loss to a man ranked so low. She even admitted they purposely chose someone that low b/c they thought he'd been easy to beat and it'd be a lopsided win for her. She was very shocked that he crushed her and readily admitted that men - even less talented men - have a HUGE advantage over women in sports. Seriously, I was impressed by her honesty and people need to shut up about the whole thing.

The match few remmember is the 1992 battle between legends Jimmy Connors and Martina Navratilova. Connors was 40, past his prime and Navratilova was 35, and still a force in the game. The court was specially painted so that Martina had the full court while Jimmy only had the singles court, and on top of that Martina had two serves while Jimmy had only one. Jimmy defeated Martina 75 62. Why was he only allowed the singles court and why onlyone serve. One thing is for certain, if Martina hasd won, we would have never heard the last of it, there would have been books, films and documentaries.

Bobby Riggs did not return shots very hard against Margaret Court either. King was younger, quicker and a harder hitter than Court. King took advantage of Riggs weak returns while Court didn't. There is speculation that Riggs, a big gambler, threw the King match so the mob would cancel his betting debts.
@dennispicone6801

Riggs was more at the entrepreneurial stage by then. Winning actually wasn't important. The figures from the match were the only things that mattered, and Bobby did quite well. However, he was in his mid fifties and had been retired quite awhile by then. He was never going to be as agile in 1973, as he was in 1939. That's just biology. If women were on the same level as men athletically then we would not existed or not be like we know, if women were strong as men, then we would have less men, women wold be at least 1.2 times the size of a man, because women would consume most of the nutrients to be able to compete against other females in strength and also be ready to give birth, but we evolved so men compete agaisnt other male to be able to provide nutrients to the women so they could carry the males genes. as a woman, it upsets me when ppl can’t accept this, bc to me it’s a logical conclusion based purely on biology the male body is faster, stronger, and taller than the female body because of GENETICS - so the best man/men will always beat the best women in sports, NOT because women don’t work hard enough or are inferior or something, but because men were literally born with the necessary biological makeup to do it all better so because of the science, to me there should be no shame in admitting that men are better at athletics based competitions no one is criticizing the dove for being slower than the eagle - it’s to be expected yet people still admire the way both birds fly in my opinion, it takes away from all of a female athlete’s hard work when she/others try to compare her to males it’s apples to oranges, and the categories are separate so that competition is actually fair and enjoyable for both sexes
@hannaht1976
@hannaht1976 3 жыл бұрын
also, another reason it’s easy for me to admit that men are better at this type of thing is bc there are so many unique things about the female body too! sure, no matter how good a woman is at sports, she’ll probably never beat men at it - but no matter how good a man is at sports, he’ll never be able to grow another human inside of him and give birth each body has different strengths and weaknesses, and i think that’s beautiful :)

Not often recognized: Karsten Braasch wasn't really considered the #203 player for men's tennis when he played the Williams sisters. He was more like #350, but the rankings hadn't yet updated on the day they played. A few days after he trounced Serena and Venus, his ranking was updated, and it dropped from the low 200s to the mid-300s. This updated ranking was based on his record from matches played _prior to,_ and _not including,_ his match against Venus and Serena. So, they didn't get drubbed by a 200-ish ranked male player, but by a 350-ish ranked male player. _Res ipsa loquitur._

The match finished 7-6 6-2 for ghazouani, who lost many games in the first set mostly because he wasn't used to play in front of big crowds and discovered just an hour before that he had to play. Once he started playing normally, andreeva never really had a chance. Phil Neer v Helen Wills Moody A dominant player from the 1920s and 30s, Helen Wills Moody routinely practiced against men. On January 28, 1933, she played her friend and occasional mixed doubles partner Phil Neer in an exhibition match in San Francisco, beating him in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Neer was the eighth-ranked American male player at the time, and Moody was the reigning Wimbledon champion. Bobby Riggs v Margaret Court Probably the most famous tennis battle of the sexes took place in 1973, between Bobby Riggs, winner of the Wimbledon men's singles title in 1939, who was aged 55 and still playing some tennis in 1973 but was well past his prime. He defeated female player Margaret Court in a match on Mother's Day 1973, the score 6-2. 6-1. Court had achieved the Grand Slam in 1970, so was at her peak. women v men game Bobby Riggs v Billie Jean King Immediately after Bobby Riggs had beaten Margaret Court, he challenged the current women's champion Billie Jean King. The match against King was highly hyped in an endless series of press conferences and feature articles, with King becoming the poster child for the entire women's liberation movement. The match was held on September 20, 1973, with King easily beating Riggs in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. A female champion of the day beating an old guy well past his prime. A list of where women won to higher ranking men and lower ranking men, since y'all love bringing Serena getting '""humbled"", she wasn't at her peak because she was too young back then too, something setting her back apart from being female. I know "the strongest man will beat the strongest woman" but some of y'all seem to forget that the strongest woman can(doesn't mean it always does) beat the average guy sometimes.
