Great video Jonny, thanks! I have a couple drone flutes that I purchased from High Spirits Flutes a few years ago, and I really like them. I'm also in the process of ordering a triple drone from Quetzalcoatl Music; SO EXCITING! I just finished your "Creating Harmonious Flow" course, which has a lot of good stuff in there, even for an experienced flute player. My wife is looking forward to taking that course, as she is just starting out. I also grabbed your "Getting Unstuck" and "Embellishments" courses, after completing the "7 Day Jumpstart" course. You've got a really good teaching technique, and even though I'm old enough to be your dad, (I'm 58), I very much enjoy learning from you. I guess I'm going to have to add this "Drone Flutes" course to my library! Thanks for all you continue to do for the flute playing community, and many blessings to you and your wonderful family.

Best type of drone for semi beginners

Drones are definitely a little bit more challenging than a single chamber flute. Depending on how long you have been playing, it might be best to become a little more comfortable with a single flute first. Beyond that then it becomes a question of fit. A higher key will be easier to reach if you have smaller hands or aren't accustomed to wider spaced finger holes. But they are so much fun to play! Enjoy!

Hi, Jonny. Thank you so much for the video. I’m new to flutes. And I just got my first flute. A drone flute in F. But since I have a relatively short fingers, I can’t reach the fourth hole (4th from the bottom) with my ring finger so I used my pinky finger instead. Is that common? Or should I change my flute to a higher note, like C, so my ring finger can reach it and the holes are closer to each other? Thank you so much for the help :)

Hey Aga, a drone flute is an ambitious start for your first. I generally recommend starting with an A or G minor to find your way around at the start of your Native flute journey. There is no reason why you can't start with an F, but as you are already experiencing difficulty, maybe another flute as recommended would be a good idea. I have many courses and tutorials available for Native flute in Horizons Flute School (horizonsfluteschool.com) and we do those in the key of A minor. Almost everyone has an A minor and almost everyone can reach all the holes right away.

can you make a video on all the notes on all off your flutes

The new course I have created has ALL the notes that my drones can play. There is a new font/drone tab diagram that I created to show this. I have done all the work up front for you so that you can start playing immediately. Here is the link: www.jonnylipfordmusic.com/pages/new-course

Great videos! I made a pvc and wood drone flute (low whistle kind) recently and im having trouble with how much air is required to play it. Do you think its a seal issue or just a normal side effect of playing two at once?
@JonnyLipford26 күн бұрын
Not being a flute maker its difficult to say. But drones absolutely do take more air to play.

Thanks for all the really good tips. I wish there would be a way to get in touch with 4 winds flutes to see about getting one of their drone flutes. So far, using their website, I haven't received any response. Thanks again.

Not sure what is going on there. You might try a direct phone call. The phone number is listed at the top of Brad’s web page.

Watching your videos is always a pleasure because I've always learned so much to improve my practice, but I would like to know at times the maker of a particular flute! Ex: the large base F# with the low E! Can you provide info on the maker?
@JonnyLipford6 ай бұрын
I think you are referring to the low F# with mid B. As mentioned in the video, that is made by Brad Young of 4 Winds Flutes.

What you think from someone that doesn't know how to play flute, would this course allow me to understand? I have a drone and I want to learn from that
@JonnyLipford Жыл бұрын
That is probably not the best course for getting started with flute. That course assumes you can play and it is about drones specifically. A better course to get started would be this one! www.jonnylipfordmusic.com/collections/native-american-flute-lessons/products/beginning-flute-course. Thank you for asking!

I just received my wooden double barreled flute I purchased from an online second hand store. It appears to have been played a lot but I am having problems getting more than one note out of it. Help!! It has 3 notes on the left and four notes on the right. Any suggestions please and thank you!
@JonnyLipford6 ай бұрын
It's really hard to say what the issue might be. The blocks could have shifted during shipping. Or it could be damaged. Its tough to speculate. Good luck to you though.
