There are things we do as beekeepers that put our queens at risk and without blame. Most of the time we must learn beekeeping on our own or from someone who does not necessarily know how to teach well.
As a result, we gain clumsy, bad habits that may be the reason for many of our queen problems. This video shows you four ways that you are killing or damaging your queens unintentionally and how to fix it.

At last a beekeeper with the same attitude as me don't want to kill or hurt his bees, I believe every life is important in the hive.

Oh my, I have never thought of the bee space you refer to in mistake #2. I use the ‘avoid at all cost’ tool and hook the frame ear right up on the box. Will have to change my approach

New subscriber here. Great tips and a video I needed to see. I at times have been a little clumsy or rough with my bees. Sometimes I have to be a little more quick than I would like. But overall I try to do the right thing. I’m sure I have killed a few queens over the years but for the most part think I have done ok.

thank you, timely information for new and experienced beekeepers. I take a little more time, not only check for the queen, her laying pattern and if they are ready for another box.

Hey! You're welcome man! That sounds perfect. I had to learn how to take my time, rather than rush through the way I used to!

Good information. The only exception I do is to remove the second frame from the outside. As you stated, she can be anywhere and if she is on the outside or the box itself, there is a chance of damaging her. Also, if she is on the box or the first frame, she has less opportunity to race across the hive.

Hey Doc, 1st year and brought my hives through winter strong. Last season I did 2 mite checks, one was done by the NY bee inspector. No mites. I just change my bottom boards and scraped them off and inspected the contents with magnifying glass. No mites. Should I still OA vape or wait till after my 1st deep dive inspection. Still waiting for 60* temps here on Long Island NY. Thx Doc, can’t wait for the next video.

Wow nice man! While your mite count is SO low, I would OAV when temps are 60F. It will be even more effective and your bees should do awesome this year!🐝🐝
