I just love it when two different cultures can reach out to each other through a common heritage of bitterly exaggerating childhood hardship. I love it even more when I discover that Hungary has really good-looking young comedians (circa 1990s).

Luxury. Sheer bloody luxury. We never had Hungarian when I were a lad. There were only two languages in them days, English and Latin. Our teachers would make us translate "It's neither mucklin nor micklin" into Latin, and then translate it back again. We had to do that a hundred times, and if we got it wrong, they'd set fire to us. You kids today, you've got it easy, with yer Hungarian and yer Swahili and yer shitake mushrooms served on square plates...

This sketch has a particular resonance for older Hungarians. Making out that one's background and childhood were much worse than they actually were was a very common practice during the first couple of decades of the post-war Communist period to get favourable treatment from Hungarian bureaucracy . For example, being seen as having come from a strong working class / proletarian background made getting into universities and other tertiary institutions much easier so students would invent all sorts of BS sob-stories about their childhood "poverty" to help them gain entrance.

Megnéztem az eredetit is. Ez szerintem sokkal jobb, mert kivárják, hogy a poénok üljenek.

The original(I mean the group, not the very first one) is the best. Especially Michael Palin's facial expressions are top notch :D This hungarian group had it's own style(its quite good, but still, a little bit sluggish) and maybe was better not copy entirely .
@teveve319 жыл бұрын
+Desmaad An earlier incarnation of the same Hungarian group was much better in the early 90s. The only remaining member from that time is the middle-agd man sitting in the middle. I saw it back then live but sadly it's not uploaded on YT. I agre with you that this one is not as good as Monty Python's.
@demizson5766 жыл бұрын
I may be splitting hairs here, but this one shouldn't really count as a 'proper' Monty Python sketch. Although it was co-written by Chapman and Cleese, the other two writers were never exquisitely associated with the Monty Python Group. Just sayin'. :)
