Honest assessment as always Tom. That was our best and still not good enough. Delving into the reason why there are too many players not quite good enough for the Championship in the whole squad, and will inevitably lead to relegation. Unless something dramatic/drastic happens.
@Lunapodthe1st6 күн бұрын
It pains me to point out this out, when your 20+ goals a season striker is effectively ruled out for the entire season before it even starts...you absolutely HAVE to put your hand in your pocket and find a fit for purpose replacement. If you don't do that then you pretty much ensure that the season will be a bust. Are we really going straight back down in the name of sustainability? I don't want another 12 years in the lower leagues while clubs like Bournemouth and Brentford turn us into a small club. I've seen 6 relegations since I've supported Pompey, if we go down this year it will be the worst of the lot by far.
@darrendcosta61285 күн бұрын
@@Lunapodthe1st Really good question re: sustainability. Something is massively off-kilter if that is the priority over staying up...!! I would like the Eisners to answer that one.
@Lunapodthe1st5 күн бұрын
@@darrendcosta6128 It's hard to be critical of the owners, but I will say a few things. Most of the money invested has been infrastructure, stadium and training ground, very little has been spent on players because we need to be 'sustainable '. Truth is that we were bought as an investment by a company that could see the money in football and wanted a slice of the pie. Putting money into the property makes it easier to sell. Property never depreciates but players are a big gamble and almost never make the club money when sold. So we buy cheap players and talk about sustainability. We hear about the Brentford or the Brighton model. Those clubs spent a fortune on players before they ever got to the EPL. Ivan Toney was 10mill from Peterborough and Adam Webster 10 mill from Bristol City. That's just two players. We're being fed bullshit. Either that or we're the only sustainably run club in the world.

Thanks to you and all the travelling supporters for once again putting miles in to support the team, those who have given the manager these players should hold their ground heads in shame, a forward who was half a pace behind some great crosses needs to question himself. The ball on the pitch and passing should have paid dividends, the space the Argyle forward was given was shameful. Watched the match on Sky and was devastated at the end, cannot know how you all must have felt. Anyway thanks to you both and the Pompey supporters. Just hope for the next match PUP ⚓️

We can't score goals, we don't look threatening going forward at all, if you can't score goals, you don't win games. Yengi does not look up to it up front. What's worse is we actually played better for more than just 45 minutes, and it still wasn't good enough to beat a very very poor Plymouth side who will be relegation contenders. It's getting harder to not feel dejected as games go by, especially as these sides down the bottom with us keep extending that gap, we're bottom for a reason, and I don't see any sign of that changing all season.

We are in big trouble. The performances are improving, but we still have the same problems we've had all season. We just don't have the quality in the squad to win games in this league. We having nothing up front and we are fragile at the back. Last night we created enough chances to have beaten a relegation rival and yet we still lost. These are the games we need to be winning and we are getting beaten or held to draws even at home by the teams in and around us. January is massive for us. I just hope they learn from the mistakes of the disastrous summer recruitment and bring in some players who can cut it as this level. That's if any players of that quality actually want to join a side that looks like it is heading straight back to League One. Not the manager's fault at all. No one is keeping a team in The Championship without a Championship squad and we don't have one. Mousinho has adjusted things over the last couple of games and it has made a difference, but the quality just isn't there and we are bottom of the league for a reason.

QUALITY...QUALITY...QUALITY....or LACK of it was Pompey's downfall. It has been ALL season...due to poor signings during the close season. Management MUST take responsibility for the lack of quality throughout the team. As the game progressed last night, and we squandered chance after chance, it was obvious to me that the very average Plymouth side would get at least one reasonable chance...and they would tuck it away. So it was NO surprise when it happened, and I KNEW that we would be unable to respond in the time left. Sorry, but TOO MANY players were anonymous during the game. Only LANG looked like he was "up for it" Now Mousinho is talking about strengthening the side in January. On his summer record of purchases I am not holding my breath for a miracle. The Club plan of buying "young" and selling on for profit looks totally stupid now as does the plan of bringing in young "loan" players and expecting them to handle the quality of most Championship sides. WE are where we deserve to be and sadly it looks increasingly likely that that phrase from Dads Army will apply to us....We're ALL doomed Mr Mainwaring.!!!!!!

Hi Tom, hope all is well, Amazing result for us, I know the feeling regarding Obafemi since Stansfield (Exeter legend) did it to us twice last season for Birmingham and you guys gave us a heck of a game and made us work for that. I can’t lie I thought Portsmouth were the better side first half, and saw Josh Murphy giving Sorinola all sorts of problems. In the 2nd half, thought we finally came out our shell and started getting closer, Houghton had an amazing game last night, but as did your keeper Schmid I thought with that save especially, if Pompey do that again on Saturday I think you guys can beat Preston at home, they don’t look great at the moment as they had their best away performance at us and they still messed it up, be a big game for you both, as with us going to Derby on Saturday Looking forward to the return to Fratton Park in March, sorry I wasn’t able to bump into you last night but I’ll see you and Andrew for then and best of luck for the season, #COYG💚

As Mousinho said in a post-match interview when we don't put the ball in the back of the next we make ourselves vulnerable to mistakes and goals at the other end. I was really impressed with our football, but at the end of the day it's our own fault we haven't done the only thing we were supposed to do and that was to SCORE. I haven't lost hope yet (probably quite foolish of me), I think for me, Preston is a must win game for Pompey, and it's at the point where its not only for our confidence, but also because if we don't start picking up serious points in this division, we are going to be looking at relegation quite quickly. I truly think this season is going to be a scrap, particularly because the teams near us that we need to catch are ALL starting to pick up points. We need to join them. I also did the 500 mile round trip to Hull, and I also saw that 45 minutes of football from us in the 2nd half, it was at least nice that we managed to do the same for the 90 minutes at Plymouth, despite the goal we conceded. I've been a viewer for quite some time now, and your content is as good as ever! Keep it up and Play Up Pompey!

A much improved team performance and one that I think offers hope in the weeks ahead. That said we can't afford to lose to teams such as Plymouth if we are to avoid relegation. As for Pompey, I thought the pressing of our front four was excellent and the midfield was more compact and mobile. Unfortunately we are struggling in central defence where both players are not at their best. This is no their fault ,the result of a couple of serious long term injuries , but one could question why Towler isn't getting more playing time. We are also missing the influence of our central defenders at corners and set pieces which in recent times has provided a number of crucial goals.

The Good: Lang is a fantastic player who never gives up Schmid pulled off one of the best saves I have ever seen Murphy was putting in some fantastic crosses The Bad: Yengi and Saydee are not good enough for this league. The stats do not lie. The Ugly: The defending for the Plymouth goal was pathetic and cost us dear again. Cannot defend even basic punts up from the ‘attacking’ goalkeeper. The stats do not lie -14 gd at this stage of the season is a significant problem Just note everyone…Oxford won again last night, against Hull. Something to dwell on isn’t it? Not sure what the answer is but it has to involve money in January. Not sure of Colby’s fitness and ability to return but JM’s decision not to register him to play is looking like a mistake…

Tom, that was the most un-deserved victory I've seen. Pompey could have been out of reach if the forwards had gotten on the end of those balls across the box.. I honestly believe that we (Argyle) didn't deserve anything from that game. Both sides were shot shy and it had 0-0 written all over it. The game changed when we brought Callum Wright on..he chased things down and made things happen. Sory there had to be a losing side there.. the wrong side lost IMO. We was one good striker away from winning, just shows how much we’re missing colby

I almost feel guilty for taking the three points that we really didn't deserve, that said, neither did you, your strikers were useless. Two poor teams that are going to struggle I'm afraid, it's going to be a long season for us both!

I think if we had just taken one or even two of the chances created in the first half we would have put the game beyond them. Plymouth had no answer in the first 45, 2nd half we let them get back in the game, they made good subs and capitalised on one of the few chances they had. Keep the faith, PUP.

For me Mousinho, Hughes and Tornante have to collectively take the blame for Pompey's failings so far this season. This isn't Mousinho, Hughes and Tornante Out by any stretch of the imagination but still all of them should be doing better for Pompey all round. To add on I really appreciate what Mousinho, Hughes and Tornante have done for Pompey but still all of them should be doing better by being better tactically, recruiting better and investing more on the pitch, but these are just my thoughts. I still believe we'll stay up but things must change and quickly, otherwise we'll continue to drift down. As always, Play Up Pompey. 🔹️🔷️🔵💙 #Pompey

If you can’t beat us when we don’t have our captain, best player,other important players and play like that then I’d be very worried if I was a pompey fan

How in the name of Universal Credit did we win that. Honestly Pompey, you just had an unbelievably unlucky game. If you carry on with that style of playing, attacking and character you WILL stay up. Other games the opponents, like us, will not have some divine spirit looking after them. Saying that, I guess football is like sex, a lot of movement, positioning and touches means sod all if it's foreplay. You have to stick something in to make it worthwhile in the end. Good luck you proud Navel City. Argyle Fan in peace.

Having time off whatever work is sounds cushy but supporting Pompey makes it less so.

It's not looking good for Pompey. If you can't win when you're playing well, there's not much hope when your form drops

Very good vlog Tom and Andrew, from a Plymouth fan, it's an unbelievable tough league, hopefully Pompey and Plymouth can stay up, get a win at Fratton Park and you will start climbing the league

An away defeat at Plymouth after conceding so late on with some very disappointing defending and the inability to put the ball in the back of net. Really need a response at home against Preston with work for Pompey to do, so disappointing, PUP. 😥🔹️🔷️🔵💙 #Pompey

Before the many injuries id of said 3-0 Plymouth . you played us at our weakest and Pompey dominated most of the game by having most of the possession . you never took your chances . A few changes by Rooney in the last 3rd and a cracking goal solely made by Obafemi it was a boring 1st half for us and a bit of a scrappy game but all it takes is one opportunity and Obafemi made the most of it . Wish you all the best against Preston on Saturday 👍

If you had Joe Taylor up front, you would have won that. He relished those sort of chances at Lincoln. Morgan Whittaker missed most of his chances, when on loan to us...from an imp (obviously).
