The mid engine Ferrari market can be divided into three depreciation categories. If you are a value conscious buyer, you should think carefully about the category you are shopping in.
The first category contains the cars that have been depreciating at a stable rate (488, F8, SF90) If you buy any of them, you should expect at least a depreciation equal to the historical values. There are no or even few indications that things will change soon in these markets.
In the second one contains the models for which prices have been stable or even increasing (458, F355). If you buy one of these, you maximize your chances of losing as little as possible.
In the third and final category we find the models with an uncertain trend (360, F430). There has been a trend breach in these markets so if you are in the market for these cars, you need to take into account that there is a significant probability that the future depreciation rate will not look like the one we saw historically.

I recently bought a very well kept and well spec'd 488 coupe, paid cash, and have no plans to sell it anytime soon. It's the 6th exotic I've owned and I can't stop driving it and I love it the most and I've owned newer models. The 488 is a very under appreciated car and has aged very well! Don't get scared to pick one up! Buy the right spec at the right price and you can enjoy it without much loss!

There was a time the 246 wasn't particularly expensive. While today... I guess what goes down sometimes goes up again. In the best cases, like the 246 it even goes up higher than where it started.

I bought a 458 spider in April with just 12,000 miles on the clock - she's mint, and I'm still in love with it! After thoroughly investigating the cars I could afford - 911 GT3's, Aston's, Mclarens etc, I finally decided on a Ferrari 458 spider, and I'm so pleased I did, however I was watching this video holding my breath a little - so thanks for reassuring me, my decision on the 458 spider was correct! The newer Ferrari's with digital dashes, turbo chargers, haptic buttons etc etc, are just meh in my opinion... Normally aspirated, high revving engines are where it's at. Period.

Your F355 price analysis is somewhat incomplete. Two major factors for that model are transmission type (6 speed manual versus F1), but even more important is the body style. While they seem to have dropped somewhat since the peak roughly a year ago...the rarest targa GTS can be 2-3x the spider price all other factors equal and the berlinetta hardtop maybe 1.5-2x.

I bought my first Ferrari and chose the California T. Came out of a 2021 C8 corvette which is a great car for the money when compared to Ferrari . 1st getting parts and getting the Vett worked on is pretty convenient. Ferrari on the other hand is much more difficult . My experience is that the closest dealer won’t take appointments for simple diagnostic tests , and don’t provide loaner cars . Mind you a used 2015 Cali T is in the 130-140k range and is 10 years old versus a new Z06 at same price point . Mine is certified and to extend the certification is about $4500 per year . All in all it is a beautiful car , performance is great but when looking at the hassle and expense to maintain it I am surprised there is any used Ferrari market . They are killing their own brand with this attitude now that others are building very competitive cars at far less money

for a more modern car say 360 onwards I would roughly take of the dealer margin say round round about £10k and then expect £1000 per month and about the same £1000 pa to service and so you have a not very far away cost which compared to the fabulous experience is cheap at the price and compares well with other similar wonder cars!

You didn't really touch on all the mid-engine Ferrari models. There's no mention of the 206, 246, 208, 308, 328, 348, Mondial, and only limited mention of the F355. The models you did mention all the way down to the 360 are still "modern" cars that are just following normal appreciation/depreciation cycles thus nothing unexpected there. Modern cars rarely have anything interesting to say about the market, it's the classic and vintage models that make the big moves.

I still think the Testerossa is an amazing buy, and to me, somewhat of an anomaly as to why they don’t average $250K to $300K, but I’m not a Ferrari market expert Edit: I checked again, and they’ve went up slightly, averaging about $215K, but you can still find a decent one for $159K! This is a lot of efforts and work to describe what has already happened. But what can you actually deduct about the next trend? I give you my two cents (not that it matters much), but in my view a car should be seen as an expenditure and therefore worth zero after you bought it. Against this you have endless driving satisfaction. And if you happen to sell it then it is a bonus. So my guess is my value trend is down and up, satisfaction is up and down. Enjoy in good health.

I factor-in £2k maintenance per year for my 2023 RS5. Ferrari offers a transferrable 7-year free servicing on new cars - even so if you can't budget around £5k per year for general costs, you can't afford something this expensive anyway.

I've owned an F355 since 2002 and even with the engine-out maintenance... the overall maintenance cost and reliability is much more reasonable than portrayed on the internet. However, one factor that must be included when representing F355 maintenance... or really all Ferrari maintenance...is that any car 25 years old will likely begin to have reliability issues compared to a brand new car obviously... also, any car that has been heavily abused (and many Ferraris probably are due to what they are and the people they attract) will negatively impact reliability.
