Foutrax 300 starter problem

Can't get the starter to turn the engine over.

Thank you so much. The washer is the whole reason I watched the video. I took mine apart and things stuck and the parts flew everywhere when I pulled it apart. I didnt know where the washer went.

The cover is binding the bottom shaft. New gasket with rtv and half ass crank the bolts down. Use blue lock tight if worried about bolt coming loose. Even with upper gear out, you can't turn the motor with a allen wrench.

okay the shim washer is on the wrong shaft it actually goes on the outside of the lower shaft ( not the midshaft. it is clicking the solenoid and putting voltage to the starter. However, you have the midshaft in a bind causing to much load for the starter to function.

Believe it or not, it is actually the cover binding the gears. I had the exact problem and after a lot of headache I figured out it was due to the gasket being old and crushed. It allowed the cover to tighten down just enough for the posts to bind. New gasket will fix. Mine was doing the same, drawing the battery down to as low as 7v. Loosen pressure and only drops to about 11v and starts right up.

for anyone watching this video ive had the same problem on my honda to save money i tapped the starter a couple of time with a hammer and it lasted another 3 years i know starters are a good amount of money so hopefully that saves yall money

I've got the same exact problem with my 300 4x4 fourtrax, the kick start never turned the engine over since I bought the machine second hand. So just used the starter, but now all of a sudden I have the same exact problem as seen in this video.

Im having same problem with my 96 honda fourtrack 300 two wheel drive and my kick start just recently went out seems like it's free spinning when I kick it any ideas i try hitting starter with hammer

You have to replace the centrifugal clutch

just hit or tap the starter a few times with a hammer or something made a metal while pushing the start button and it will start right up

I'm pretty sure it's the brushes in your starter I had the same problem with my 350 just take the starter off take it a part and if it looks burnt out go to your local bike shop and pick some brushes up should only be a cheap fix
