Anna you hit it 100% on the nose. The main thing about politics for years is that the one thing the majority could agree on is that it was the same level of corruption (for the most part) and the expectation for anything to actually be done for regular people was nearly non-existant. So much to the fact that no one really looked into or cared about a politicians policies or backgrounds. Which unfortunately is how we opened the path to get here. But when Trump came he exposed the entire game, so in a way, he did expose the swamp he was just a part of it. And that led to the Democratic side having to actually move towards and put into place policies that would actually benefit regular people, because they need the votes to beat Republicans. And if I were a Republican politician that's what I would be upset about. Because even though the Republican grift makes you more money in the short term, it's not a long lasting grift that's going to last for years like it previously did.

They talk about it a lot on the news but His OPENING rally for his presidential campaign had a projected 15,000 attendants. Instead they only had about 2,000. In a city of 140,000 with surrounding cities with a combined population of over 500,000 people within 20 mins drive of the airport where he had the rally. That means that of all the people who could have driven there in just 20 minutes or less only 0.004% of them showed up. I'm not concerned that he might be in office again.

Two things to remember about the Jan 6 Insurrection: First, the Capitol was CLOSED to tourists/visitors on Jan 6 due to the Certification of the vote. No visitors/tourists should have been in the Capitol building. Second, according to the Architect of the Capitol, approximately $1.5 MILLION in the damage to the Capitol builiding was caused by the Jan 6 "tourists" not to mention injuries to 130+ Capitol policemen and subsequent deaths of 5 policemen.

Officer Jeffrey Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department killed himself after the attack. Officer Howard S. Liebengood of the Capitol Police also died by suicide four days afterward. The Capitol Police had previously said that Officer Sicknick died from injuries sustained “while physically engaging with protesters.” The Washington medical examiner later ruled that he had died of natural causes: multiple strokes that occurred hours after Officer Sicknick’s confrontation with the mob. The medical examiner added, however, that “all that transpired played a role in his condition.”

You aren’t alone. The party essentially has openly abandoned any framing of being invested in our democracy. It’s a party of zero policy goals that resorts to violence, subterfuge & bigoted fascist rhetoric & hate to gain power. Rational competent governance isn’t just not a priority for the GOP but rather explicitly is deliberately erased as any sort of party interest. Sadly, too many are too lazy/scared to think for themselves, they’d rather allow whichever political “party” to which they belong to dictate their thoughts, words, actions. My sister and i (female, 50+) were raised in a GOP house, but we were also taught, through words and actions, to register for whichever party we wanted, and to listen to EVERY candidate in EVERY party. I still do. I’ve never known to which “party” my sister belongs, but she ALWAYS votes for whichever candidates are in her party, “it gets me in and out of the booth faster,” takes great pride in that feat, thinks she’s wonderful.
