If you watch any interview he did before meeting Vanessa, he doesn't seem very happy. Sometimes he appears downright pissed off. But yeah, he does seem very sad here.

I am sure he was sad during this time. I agree from all the interviews I have watched with him, I am now able to tell when he is being his usual shy and introverted self, when he is physically tired, or when something beneath the surface is wrong (whether it be a specific event/situation that is bothering him, or merely his depression kicking in)... Something seems to be wrong here though I don't know what it is:(

@findingnvrland21 You totally missed the point, she wasn't comparing him to Tom Cruise, she was just saying he could of taken the safe route and played it safe with cookie cutter roles, or do like he is doing, and take roles that are challenging. If you ask me its a compliment, sooo I don't see how you can call her a Class A bitch...I mean she just paid him a huge ass compliment, saying Tom was the one playing the same ol same ol, and JD is playing various characters..creating art...geezzz
