Fox One! | Basic Weapons and Radar Tutorial for the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet!

This is a basic and quick tutorial on how to employ Air to Air Weapons, Air to Ground Weapons and use your radar while fighting your way into enemy airspace, destroying your target and fighting back out.
This is not a tutorial on how to dogfight, there are many, many publications, videos, books, documentaries, etc that can teach you the proper techniques for dogfighting. This video simply serves to show you the different switchology associated with using these weapons while you play/fly.

White Minority no problem man! You can also tell on your RWR if a spike is friendly or enemy, if it’s friendly it will have a little half circle above the symbol of its enemy it will have a little Carat

Yep, spent hundreds of hours watching different youtubers although it started with Ralfidude. Hellreign82, Devildoggamer just to name a few others. huge fan of military specially the aerial side of it. Just simply can't afford a decent computer curretnly which would run DCS or Arma 3. Well Arma 3 by far not that detailed as DCS in terms of flying and operating an Airplane as it's more simplified but for Milsim type of gameplay good enough if you find the right communitys.

Thanks for this - teaching tip on use of mouse - less is more. Only move it when going to the next step. Random movements of cursor only confuse. Words must match movement.

I have downloaded a number from the DCS site and they work fine, but what if I wanted to create a mission like the one in this video where I could do some A2A and then some A2G. How is that done? To "lock on" search "Throttle Designator Controller - DEPRESS" in the control options. This will lock onto the bogey and give information whether it is friend or foe.

Dan I believe it’s a newer feature, if you are already in A/A master mode and you select an air to air weapon it shouldn’t go to the stores page

@Spudknocker , Do you have some kind of mod for that map screen? Have seen many ppl have much more "bolded" letters, on those green sa sybology, in that. That green text and symbology of HSI on top of the map is kinda unreadable in my cockpit, more or less. I have tried to set it in every mode (night / nav / day/ of cockpit iteself etc. And ofc the screen brightenss and gains etc. I CAN SEE the tex IF I zoom close, but it does not look as clear as that. Is it just my 1080p res?

Superb.... the few things I can't work out how to setup yet are, using the top left hat button on my VKB Gladiator as a mouse... I can make the mouse move, around but how to make it select/click things in the cockpit? Programming that is hard. Plus my WinWing Orion throttle the RZ/RY axis (Afterburner detent?) refuses to work... if anyone has that figured please let me know!

Are you hitting the throttle designator detent every time you lock a target or is there a mode that auto locks a target in boresite for example as soon as you have it lined up?

@ 12:51 when you're coming up on the convoy and the labels disappear, what on the HUD is indicating you are over the target and to release the bombs? I can't see anything in the hud that appears to tell you when to drop. Are you just guessing? Or is there a guide that tells you to drop them?

He disabled the labels to see the targets better. he just visually aquires them and lines the CCIP with them. no shoot cue with CCIP, just release with the bombs when properly aligned with the target.

I've got a problem where when i lock up the target, even though it is an enemy it is a square, not a dimond. it wont give me a shoot queue.

its a simple work around at the moment that only displays on the hud but it helps!

is it something you did. or did DCS implement this as a temp? either way IFF should have been in from the get go. its an integral thing in multiplayer. if you cant get IFF especially in a server with 40 hornets 20 V 20. its impossible :P

FusionTrain Track-While-Scan is not yet implemented yet, range while scan was which is the default mode the radar goes into while employing the AIM-120

Spudknocker thanks man! Yeah im rocking a 27in/1440p/144hz monitor and there's no going back. Sadly I'm running DCS at 1080p because the 1070 struggles at times.

You know, I haven't. I've heard turning it off and running AA from GeForce is also far better than the default AA in-game, however I haven't really experimented with it. I guess tonight will be the night!

The M61 in DCS is coded incorrectly with a 22 mil spread (22in at 1000ft). M61 spec irl is an 8 mil spread, give or take a little variation, but 22 mil is really unheard of unless the gun sustained damage. You can go into the DCS weapons configs and set the M61 to the correct 8 mil. The downside is that it won't pass integrity for multiplayer.

Love the videos but if someone is looking for a tutorial and they are new....you have to tell them what you are clicking not just tell them what to adjust....since it's a tutorial...or maybe tag the video for experienced players....idk....but if someone just getting into cockpit for the first time they won't follow....this might be the thumbs down....just a suggestion bro...

Rick Berry it is for video enhancement but I also use labels when I play for fun I cant spot anything without them. It’s a real issue with DCS in my opinion. It’s induced by different types of monitors and hardware etc but it’s quite annoying as something I would be able to see while flying a real aircraft I cannot see at all in DCS

Spudknocker well to me the nose makes it look unfinished. Of course it looks great on Russian aircraft. And of course personally stars on a US aircraft like that doesnt sit well with me haha.
