Agreed. And as for this kid’s punishment… Honestly I’m sometimes a racist guy, and not shallow (and I’m straight). I don’t feel sympathy for this Arab kid and idc about looks. W/ that said… a girl drunk driver only got *3 years* for killing 2 people. What this kid did had horrible consequences but it wasn’t intentional murder and he wasn’t drinking or doing drugs. 24 years isn’t even close to in line with the charges women would get in the same situation. So it’s unfair/sexist. I personally would’ve sentenced him to 10 to 12 years or something along those lines. Enough to make him never race a car again in his life, but will still allow him the chance to contribute to society when he’s out. 24 years wrecked this kid’s whole life. I can’t help but think the judge was jealous or angry about the kids looks, or maybe the judge thought “I’m not giving him a pass on his looks so I’ll give him a harsh punishment”. 10 to 12 years would’ve made him a mature and changed 30 year old when he gets out. Now, he won’t get out until he’s 42 years old and his entire life will be ruined. At age 42 it’s too late to learn a skill or start a career. To me, that might be justice, yes, for the victim, but I still don’t know if it’s the right decision for society as a whole. And it certainly will increase his likelihood of crime when he eventually gets out. If he got out at 30, he’d learn his lesson but wouldn’t have lost ALL hope- he would at least be able to learn a skill. Maybe construction, maybe accounting, maybe sales, maybe computer science. But at age 42, he has no choice but to continue a life of crime and delinquency. 42 is too late to start a life. At 42 the brain has pretty much stopped being able to learn new information or make new habits. This kid never intended to hurt anyone, 18 year old kid’s brains don’t fully understand consequences yet. Their brain isn’t fully formed yet, it’s biology. Again if he had intentionally killed someone, yes, lock him up forever and throw away the damn key. But this kid made a VERY Stupid/bad decision BUT he never intended to harm anyone. It probably didn’t even occur to him he would crash. He was a stupid kid who made a really stupid decision. I don’t even know the kid but I recommend he appeal it immediately, and also immediately get a better lawyer. If he has parents hopefully they get him a better lawyer.

Besides all your racism blah blah... I totally agree with you. Personally I think 5 years plus 20 years probation would be a good consequence. The probation to make sure he stays off drugs/alcohol. To make sure he stays on the right path and give him a chance to be a normal adult. I watched his moms testimony... He has PTSD and a lot of remorse. When I was18 I made a stupid mistake that cost my parents $119,000. I'm 36 now and can't imagine still paying the consequences today.
