Florida braces for impact as Hurricane Milton nears making landfall

Hurricane Milton is hurling tornadoes and rain at the U.S. coast on its steady, potentially catastrophic march toward Florida’s west coast. Florida officials on Wednesday issued a final plea to residents to evacuate or face grim odds of survival. The National Hurricane Center stressed that it was not certain where Milton’s center would come ashore Wednesday night because the storm’s path might “wobble,” but the entire Tampa Bay region and points south were at grave risk.

@@Galliano3625 I’m glad you asked. I went to the State Farm claims center in a vacant Kmart. The man asked me how much cash I had lost and I said none. We went to the ATM that morning and had the cash in my wife’s purse. He then asked how much jewelry did you lose? I replied, “None, we put it all in the trunk of our car in the garage. He said, I’ll be right back. He returned in five minutes with some VP from State Farm who said I was the first person in three days of processing that hadn’t lost cash or jewelry. He asked for my documents and told me to come back in three days to get my full settlement amount.

You only have to evacuate 10 miles from the coast. There are 200,000 open beds in shelters. The government is paying for free Ubers to the shelters. Everything has been provided. If people refuse to take a free 10 mile cab ride and sleep at an elementary school, that’s their own fault

If you are near the marina please make sure to go very far away even if it means to move out a shelter just brace yourself somewhere higher, once the storm lands the shore it will be flooded by the storm-surge under seconds 4 to 5 meters high. My memories of Typhoon Haiyan are still haunting, it's the storm surge what killed more than 6,000 people in my town.
