My family and I recently moved away from East Harlem (126th and Lexington) and it’s truly terrible over there. We were hoping the new buildings would make it better but nope. K2 and opioids have that community in a chokehold. Needles everywhere and people selling their meds to one another and us paying $2.4K a month. SMH

If the government didn’t fund public housing, homeless services, and have rent reguation, none of this would exist in the area. It’s impossible to have 1 in 3 residents below the poverty level when the median market rate rent in East Harlem is $3,400.

I live here, and there are people walking the streets fully naked to get sympathy from people on the street. Then they'd tell you that their situation is like that because no one donates money to them. It's absolutely ridiculous, especially during the summertime and holidays. My train was held up because one of these people decided to pull the emergency stop button on the train, and their reason was "There shouldn't be this many *expletive* on this train, and not a single person giving a penny to me". It makes me late for work all the time...

One thing is decriminalization, another thing is a complete free for all. There has to be order & a sound structure. If you feel the rights of one portion of the population should be respected, then the rights of all the population should be respected. All this money for programs, but what about money to house people, to help those with the most needs, to have a place of their own, a routine to abide by, a way to make them want to stop the heavy drug use, & to be off the streets. If that doesn't work then mandatory treatment at a center like the wealthy use for drug abuse, where you stay for at least 6 months, & if they refuse, then Rikers Island where they won't be smiling. You have to help make a change in peoples lives one way or the other, life ain't all peaches & cream. I've been incarcerated, yeah the jail experience can be better, but it did help me change my life for the better. MAY GOD BE WITH YA'LL 😎

So we’re going to talk about people using drugs for 20 minutes, but not the ones selling. She didn’t bother to cover gangs at all? Let’s be honest Harlem is a nesting ground for gangs. Nypd knows who is who, but want to act like there are no laws to make arrest on anymore. Yes politicians have weakened certain laws, but it’s like nypd just gave up. If cops were as tough on crime as meter maids are tough on parking violations imagine how clean the streets would be.
