I, my wife, and children were about 20 feet from Keith and Lyndsey as this unfolded. I watched as people were shot. There is no amount of money I wouldn’t pay to get that image out of my mind now. After seeing her photo, my wife immediately knew who she was because she was just on a case with her less than a month ago as opposing counsel (they are both attorneys). We saw as Keith was doing CPR to save her life, others were screaming in agony, yelling for help, first responders and officers running to aid people, and just being in absolute shock. Physically my family was unharmed, but mentally it is going to be an uphill climb. Keith, you and your beautiful children are in my thoughts every single minute of every hour. Every word you say about your beautiful wife Lyndsey is like hearing the words I would say about my dear, Elissa. It breaks my heart that you lost the love of your life to this senseless violence. I am so so very sorry.

To see the self-chosen arrogance and entitlement, bitterness, self-pity, anger and hatred that are so much of today in this country, and fueled, I am sure, the violence that took the life of this wonderful young mother and wife, stand in direct contrast to this husband and father's benevolent spirit. I am not an American, and I am trying to process this senseless tragedy at an event that was to celebrate Black Freedom or journey to it and I stand corrected. And who were the perpetrators, two warring black gangs. I am really lost for words, but for the organizers there must be some realistic Outreach to these lost and purposeless, destructive black persons in the terms of the struggle, the journey and what true freedom really means. I really can't express more, it is just so unnecessary tragic. Please don't let their death be in vain, there should be a campaign to stop this kind of tragedy. These celebrations shouldn't be happening at all. It's time for black folks to move past the obsession with slavery. It was 200+ years ago, and some of us use it as an excuse for problems that are more self-inflicted than the result of something that happened eons ago. No, you don't forget and you can commemorate, but you need to balance your never-ending reflections and bathing in the river of victimhood with focusing on the problems of today and how to solve them. Juneteenth was a commemoration relevant to Texas. Slaves in Texas didn't get word of emancipation until 2 and half years after the fact. All these years and most blacks in other parts of the country never heard of Juneteenth. I first heard of it when I moved to Houston in the 90s. My parents subscribed to Ebony magazine back in the day and I do not recall reading about Juneteenth. Jesse Jackson, the NAACP, and related race gatekeepers never made an issue of Juneteenth. Only in the last 2-3 years do we hear about Juneteenth on a national level. I wonder why? Could it be a political move, i.e., make it a national holiday to garner votes? Did the purveyors of Wokism find Juneteenth a useful tool to advance their agenda? This senseless murder of a young attorney mom with 3 kids and a loving husband is another tragic example of how black folks need to stop fixating on slavery, racism, white supremacy, and all the other distractions and excuses and worry about how to fix the problems we face today. We have a race problem but it has nothing to do with whites; we have a black problem - a large subset of the race that is dysfunctional and dangerous. Don't look to the black MISleadership class for any solutions; they make more money off chaos and despair. Any real solutions will come from the grassroots level - the individual and the family.
