Thank you - that is the first serious alternative to a combustion toilet, and presented with your customary professionalism. Wanting 'no-gas' on board meant I needed to factor-in a larger battery capacity, to power the combustion burner, this Compooster loo eliminates that need - and has done away with the 'cranky' manual stirring handle. It also looks really cool (obviously cool as it's not combustion). My worry had been explaining that handle to my grandsons when they visit - this is press button, no handle and superb for all ages. Thanks again - it's a load off my .......!

This is, by far, the best composting toilet video I’ve seen. I’m plan to share it to several tiny house Facebook channels. I would suggest diluting the wee in a bucket of canal water to avoid nitrogen burn . . . . Fantastic you have a storage space for the bag of fresh compost in the “cassette” cabinet.

When you did the demonstration with the cassette my comment was that it was a reason not to go narrow boating as I hate dealing with poo. Now I can't day no to narrow boating - except for the cost!!!!!!!! But thanks for this demo. I did find it interesting. I shall stick with astronomy!

We have had a composting toilet on our boat since day one, over 5 years ago. Switched from an Airhead last year as it took so long to clean and now have a Simploo which we are very happy with. The boat originally had a pump out and When we had the survey done before buying the boat, he found that the pipe out of the tank was rotting. Dread to think what would have happened if that rusted through whilst it was being pumped out. Worth the price of the survey for that discovery alone. Had the tank removed and we got loads of extra storage under the dinette. No regrets at all with going down the composting route.

Yeah, it’s been fine. Looks like yours externally but the Pooh tank is a crate with a sliding lid. The bottle has a wide neck so it’s easy to clean inside if it gets a bit crusty. We already had a fan for the Airhead that we reused. This was a hose that went out through the roof and was housed in a solar vent with a rechargeable battery. This means that we don’t need to connect to the boats electrics. We always tell men to sit down when using it, as even if they think they are a good shot there is likely to be some splashes.

This sounds excellent and will be my choice in future. I ordered a Kildwick composting toilet after talking to their representative at Crick however they took a large amount of money from me and never sent the product. They subsequently refused to answer any calls nor responded to any emails etc. I’m hoping a lawyer will be able to get my money back but so far no joy. Coompost products do seem to be very well designed and they appear to be a reliable business unlike Kildwick (who are essentially crooks and apparently have stung other customers). We had our boat on a large lake in BC. We had 8 persons on the boat 4 adults & 4 children. My brother-in-law and I would take turns emptying the toilet which we each dreaded our turn. The boat was a 38’ , 14 ton ocean going boat and we had to anchor off shore then load the cassette into a little aluminum row boat and take it to shore to dump it in a campground toilet. We called the procedure not ship to shore but shit to shore. It was was brother-in-laws turn and he rowed into shore a fair ways with the goods. We waited and waited but no Rob, finally after about an hour we saw him rowing back. We asked him what took so long . He said he went into the campground toilet and took the cap of the cassette and the cassette slipped out of his hand onto the floor and then it proceeded to empty the goods, glug, glug,glug just as the ranger came in the door to do a check. The ranger said I guess you will need a shovel, mop, & hose. We certainly know the issues with cassettes especially my brother in law. Cheers Ellis

Very informative! A few years ago we were staying with friends in the mountains around Saranac Lake, NY. In their converted barn home they had a composting toilet, a (year-round use outdoor urinal (complete with roaming black bears walking about), and in their guest house where we stayed an early model incinerator toilet. It was our first experience with this technology, and I must say, the most memorable….. Lol! Cheers!

Well done lads. Who would've thought that a vlog about poo would actually be interesting and informative? Not me, until I saw this one. Cannot believe how easy it is to dispose of the waste. Now, for the young Shaun, and his aversion to the Elsan process with the cassette, as a lad I grew up in a little country town in South Australia. Would have been in the last 50s. We had an outside toilet, wooden long seat (with attached Red Back spiders) and a big kerosine drum as the catcher. And sometimes telephone books as the paper source. Yep. It got to be my job to take it across to the paddock next door (unused so we were actually doing good for it) and bury it. Ewwwwwww. Sometimes (most times) I was a bit lazy and left it until there wasn't an option but do the dirty deed. Yeeeewwww! So, Shaun, I can completely sympathise with you mate. Been There and Done That! Great video except for the closing seconds. Ewwwww! LOL

we have found the little green 'compostable bags' and the cellulose lined paper bags are leakers after a bit of time... check out the 'glad scented garbage bags' they seem water tight. I realize the compost toilet separates solids and liquids which is a very good thing for sure . we are looking at a composter for the van by the way. We are currently using a tightly sealed bucket that fishers would use in a small craft and it has its own set of issues. we look forward to a review after a few months of use !

Thanks guys, may have just solved our dilemma of the loo for NB Dogs Allowed. Boat yard taking pump out as I write. Looks way better than the one Narrowboat Experience fitted (hand big handle). Perhaps will try it at Crick.

Yeah, there are a lot of composting loos that we didn't like but this one is just the business. Even Narrowboat Experience commented on Compoost's Instagram page about it last week 👍🏻

You two are adorable... Great video and you've answered some of the questions I had about composting toilets. I'm working on fitting out an RV for the road and hoping to be able to boondock off grid. That means eliminating all unnecessary water usage - so a flush toilet is out. Composting is the way to go but I have family members who would rather risk going in the woods than using a composting toilet. Sigh... I hope after I share this video with them, they'll feel much better about using one.

These look brilliant especially as you say compared to the cassette toilet. We currently pay £21 for the blue chemical in our motorhome, which only lasts maybe 6 weeks and obviously can’t be that good for the environment. So this is definitely something we will consider. Thanks for sharing 😊

Thank you, thank you, for this video. I'm thinking of installing a composting toilet this year. I have a Thetford toilet, and being a single lady, on my own, I have to rely on myself for DIY. You made it so clear and easy removing the old toilet, and replacing the new. I didn't even think about using the wiring for the Thetford, for the pump! Doh! Awesome!👍😊
