My husband and I worked in the prison system here in AR for years. He was an officer and I was a nurse. I don't know about other states, but our inmate food was not bad food. We ate the same food they did. The inmate cooks were pretty good at their art. They had good healthcare, were allowed yard time, counseling services. Yes, we had a high black inmate count, but very few of them that were in there were in without a good reason. I know we showed the inmates respect and they did the same. Amy L. Douglas.

They're inferring that black men are put in prison for no reason. Thomas Sowell says black men get longer prison sentences because many can't afford a better lawyer. It's not a race thing it's a class thing. Meanwhile prisoners in America can write books, get a degree, work out, read, watch TV, get anger management therapy, medical care etc.

Some of our best attorneys are public defenders. They work twice as hard for half the money and sometimes do not get paid at all. Next they will want barber services and designer slides and scrubs while they continue to collect food stamps and welfare. They even collected pandemic money while sitting in prison.
