I was a liberal during Obama’s term and my son and I decided to attend a Tea Party meeting to see what sort of people attended. To our surprise we were treated with the utmost respect. I have long hair and am covered in tattoos and was really surprised at how welcoming they were. After listening to what they had to say I found out I had a lot more in common with them than the Democrats. I’ve never looked back and sometimes I wonder how I ever bought in to all the socialist crap.

I went to one also, in Phoenix a few years ago.. After the rally, the "protesters" stood on the other side of the street as we were leaving. We didn't get to talk much. They're paid to be there and protest. Look around. Often you'll see an old guy off to the side. Usually in his 50s or later. He's the socialist running things. There's often a woman nearby with a clipboard. She's taking attendance for paying them. Sometimes you'll see them on MSM camera by mistake. There are some YT videos on that especially when BLM was burning, looting, and murdering.

It's less important that liberals and conservatives disagree on things, and more important that we agree on others. You can spend your whole life looking at the negative aspects of everything, but that will never bring happiness or contentment. When you have a choice to look at the negative or positive, you will be much more comfortable (and tolerable to others) choosing the positive side. Don't give in to the fire being stoked by media and politicians making you dislike people simply for having those differing opinions. And yes, talking to people with alternative or differing ideas CAN teach you something. Anyone who thinks otherwise does not understand the need for diverse thoughts and opinions. That is how the world evolved to where we are today, for better or for worse. Someone out there once said "Huh, I wonder if we rotate crops, will our fields grow more food?" and they did it. If we shut those people down just because we don't want to hear something different, we will never achieve progress. Not saying all liberal ideas lead to progress, I personally don't believe they do... but someone out there might take a portion of those ideas and turn them into something good one day.

Honestly as a moderate I take both parties seriously on there wants. It's not hard to do if you just listen to both sides and don't immediately respond in a reactive way. My own partner is more Republican leaning in certain stances and I am more dem leaning in certain things and then in others it's flipped while most we absolutely agree on. This reminds me of when I attended two Jordan Peterson events. I'm a very shy person, I went to the events by myself and knew nobody. By the end of both evenings I had made new friends, and had some great conversations. People were so kind and friendly to each other. At one event we were queueing in the rain for over an hour. Strangers sheltered each other with umbrellas, huddled together, and were so courteous. It was such a pleasant place to be.

I've voted left and right (in Australia), but especially over the past few years, I've definitely thought of myself as more conservative. It's hard to relate to radicals on either side (though it does seem there are a lot more on the far left these days) but I think most people, whether they identify as left or right, tend to be more around the middle and I think with them it's easy to find common ground. It's sad that we feel we have to identify ourselves at all by our politics, but it's an agenda that keeps being pushed, seemingly, to deliberately cause division
