I believe the guilty party should pay the price of the crime and be punished. A takeaway message would be that despite what this woman has done, she can still turn her life around and change. Indeed she better, but it isn't up to us to forgive or not. We must forgive no-matter. What this young man proved was despite even the most egregious of sins, we must forgive and we can forgive, it's up to the Great Creator whether or not we are forgiven based off repentance.

Technically you do for morals. Without any god (not even just saying a Christian God) there is no foundation for morals or ethics.
