Funny watching this as we came up Foxton this afternoon after having spotted Nutshell at Debdale. Foxton is the best 10 locks you can do they are so easy and fast.

Hi guys. I wish we knew that you had passed we would have said g'day. Foxton is a fun flight.
@bixrog7 жыл бұрын
G ´day to you both. Thanks for the video of foxton locks, it brings back many childhood memories. I was brought up about 15 miles away in the county of Rutland, as kids we used to get on our push bikes and go there for a day out...with our jam sandwiches that our mums made....now when we visit friends and relations in rutland we try to go there every day, for me the place is so interesting.
@LifeinaNutshell7 жыл бұрын
The place is certainly very interesting. So much history in those locks

Hi Magnus, Wendy, Thanks for another good Vlog..The history part is good to hear.I always like to know more about our canal history as it was the backbone of transporting our goods around the country, before transporting by road and rail.The Foxton Staircase Locks look a dream.We have'nt got to do them as yet."I thought" the part for your Drone had been delivered to you fast!!!Ha!!The drone footage was wonderful....but yours is just as good Magnus !! Debdale Marina looks lovely, and quite good prices for a DIY weekend the facilities look exceptional. Hope that the blacking goes well it"s a big job, but needs must..Thankyou again for the brilliant Q & A. ( l am sure i have already mentioned that, just a few times ) : - ) 'Cheers' and 'Not Bad' ... xx

I thought that the ice breakers were cool, could see myself crewing one for the beer! I loved the Harvest Gypsies song! As I'm watching this, my bride is working the Cherry harvest as the Harvest coordinator and will work 600 hours in the next month or so. There is a lot of truth in that song. Well done my friends, cheers! Rich

Love history so keep it coming when possible! You are now on the same course as the author of "Narrow Boat" L. T. C. Rolt which I am now reading on Kindle. I have just read the chapter on Foxton Locks and the boat lift so your video couldn't have better timing. The drone footage is awesome (or should I say "not bad" lol!) and adds so much to your story because now you are telling us a or your story of adventure and exploration including the history of the canal system and narrowboat life. Once again "well done" and cheers"

Thanks Smitty. I love the history too. I wasn't sure if the history would bore people.

Hahaha...cream teas....I tried to teach my Mum in law how to cook Aussie scones, but they always turned out looking like fishcakes! Needless to say my wife is from Derby, nice to have you back on board Magnus and Wendy. It's a long time since I have been served a "proper" Devonshire Tea complete with fine china. Cheers Guys

No pubs nearby though :( I hope you have a few beers and some wine in stock :) Isn't that where the boat painter John Barnard is based? His work looks good.

Hi Ronnie. Yes, John Barnard is here somewhere, but I haven't spotted him yet. W.

Hi mate great to have you back on the cut in the mother country, ha ha. This is the second video on which you have used the song Harvest Gypsy.I have researched the interesting history that inspired the song and discovered the history of the Californian fruit farms in the 1930,s. Who is the artist on your version? Anyway i love your vids and your inquisitive outlook. Thanks i will carry on watching.

I was going to ask if you need a special permit to use a disabled mushroom but looked it up instead - Canal and River Trust Mooring FAQ says In some places you may see a mooring bollard with a wheelchair sign indicating priority usage by people with mobility difficulties. Please be prepared to move to a different mooring if the mooring space is required by another boat whose crew have mobility difficulties. Looks like its voluntary compliance instead of enforced.
@LifeinaNutshell7 жыл бұрын
Most of the canal is like that. Voluntary compliance seems to work 95% of the time.

It just seems odd .to travel all the way from Australia and be content to just motor up the ditches in England checking out beers considering the ambitious sailing trips you have planned for the future. You could have done some excellent vlogs on the Caledonian canal and sailing on the Clyde. Some of the beers we have here are not bad either! Anyway, Good Luck and happy drinking!

see yuo did , but they should never have given it you in the first place
@paula85447 жыл бұрын
that was a travesty of a cream tea. a proper Cornish cream tea, normally consists of, two large homemade scones,, 1plain 1 fruit or your choice, lashing of clotted cream served in a china bowl not stainless steel, same with homemade strawberry jam. with generous amount of tea ( loose leaf) served in china teapot, china cups, tea pot, milk etc. the whole point is to take your time, relaxing in the luxury of a holiday or day off,
@sarahmartella33817 жыл бұрын
you are quite right Paula. : - )

We agree. It should be done properly of not at all.

Cream teas belong to Devon really.
@paula85447 жыл бұрын
James S D I know we are very loyal towards our Countys, a friendly rivalry.. for the sake of harmony on this channel, may I politely suggest Devon scones and Devonshire Jam, Cornwall supply the clotted cream. What would you say, Jam first?? Many hours this topic has hotly been debated. For the sake of international relations lets just agree, both Countys excel at producing superb food and welcoming friends.
@jamessd76777 жыл бұрын
Jame first yes, ( I'm not a Devonian by the way, just interested, lightheartedly ), thanks.

@LifeinaNutshell7 жыл бұрын
I agree Don. The barman was only a young fella. I doubt he even drank real ale.
@donfink70637 жыл бұрын
When I was a lad it it was rarely about the brewery, it was the pubs govner, his/her standards and how they looked after their beer and patrons. A sloppy govner has sloppy staff and questionable beer, that's one pub that I'll never darken the door of.
