Ross, I have almost identical team as you except Munoz for Saliba. This gives 1.0 in the bank. As an Ipswich fan, I fear both Salah (Davis is weak defensively) and Haaland. After week 2, I plan to reassess and could use 2 free transfers to remove Haaland to Watkins and then any other midfielder to Palmer, Saka or Foden. This still leaves funds for a week later to move one of the other 2 midfielders to either of the remaining 2 premium midfielders. Think this offers the flexibility to not worry about the Haaland or no Haaland debate. Have him to start and see where the season goes initially. What are your thoughts.

Nkunku only had one major injuries and one niggle last season. A good pre season will sway opinions for all.

You do know nkunku played football before last year don't you? Since playing top level football he had missed 32 games and played 250 before last season. Bit different to reece james who has missed 118 and played 158.

Salient point re Gordon and away fixtures. Youre the only one to mention it so far. I love Gordon but barring gw1 there are question marks. I really like Hudson. Great fixtures. Ended strongly and got a brace of assists in the pre season friendly. Looked very sharp. Haaland is the tricky one. Thinking ill have him for two gameweeks and then sub him out because Ipswich is too scary to go without.

I think it's possibly better to start with Haaland and Salah given they both play Ipswich in their opening few games, and then downgrade one or the other and bring in your Saka, Foden or Palmer. On a side note the above is basically my current draft, except I only have one premium defender, and I used that 1.5 m to get Hudson-Odoi as my fifth mid to rotate with Joao Pedro.

I agree overall Haaland doesn't appear to be worth it, but comparing points per million across players that have played different minutes is not fully correct nor accurate. Last year when Haaland was injured, you would have swapped to other strikers and benefitted from those points (at least I did because he was injured for several weeks in a row, which is a totally different story to being affected by rotation). Can you repost the stats adjusting by minutes played? I'm pretty sure Haaland would go further up top, but also give everyone a more informed overview.

Nice. My current draft is similar to this. Other 5.5 forward I’m keeping an eye on in preseason is Ndiaye at Everton. Think it’s much easier to move out of this structure than into it.

Similar draft for me other than I have CHO over Franca to rotate with Pedro and Anderson Konsa over Gabriel Barca and gone Bednarek over Harwood- Bellis as like the rotation between Anderson Mykolenko Konsa and 4 m Southampton defender

I agree with you on the weak bench and no backup for. Pedro. Maybe downgrade Saliba or Gvardiola for a nailed mid.. Semenyo or Hudson-Odoi? I was surprised by how strong a team this is. Decisions,decisions.

Not sure yet whether I can trust enough to go without Haaland. I’ve currently got a draft without Haaland Salah or Watkins lol. Still it feels fairly balanced to me. Pickford, Flekken, Saliba, Gvardiol, Guehi, Burn, Davis (down to Taylor when Mateta comes back), Saka, Palmer, Foden, Johnson, Barkley, Zirkzee (Mateta when he returns), Gakpo, Isak (c).

Personally I think you can get away with one premium defender and reinvest that 1.5 m into the midfield. Yes more than one defender might start in great form, but with the changes to the bonus system, and seemingly a trend toward less clean sheets, I think it's best to generally go cheap on defence.

Hi Ross, I have a slight worry about Gordon. Hope I’m not overthinking it but I vividly recall he was sharing minutes with Barnes (who was good when fit) until Barnes had the season long injury. Is Gordon now a minutes risk given Barnes is healthy? And assuming Callum Wilson will share minutes with Isak?

Burn instead of Mykolenko until Game week 5 looks like a good rotation IMO. Mykolenko’s fixtures really pick up after GW4

This might be the best starting team given the Euros. Those players you mentioned you are missing are on holliday. Will they even play the first game and are they in form? This team targets Ipswich in gw1 and 2. After that you decide. A team without Halland and Salah looks good, but it`s the captain choice for me. I will have to pick a diffrent cap every week and thats hard. Something tells me I want a team without both Salah and Halland, but not from the start I think

As a Palace fan, the Franca selection isn’t one I’d make. I don’t see him starting for us, although I think he’s a good player with a lot of room to grow. I think the front 3 is Eze/Mateta/Ayew

He should get more minutes than last season with Olise’s departure and the fact that Franca should be healthy now, he’s been healthy since March or so which is good after his rough first PL season. If you’re going for a Palace mid that’s 4.5, I’d honestly rather have Rak-Sakyi because the right side of the offense has more room for minutes than the left, which Franca and Eze play on

Rotating 4.5 defenders is the way to go. With the BPS changes defenders won't score over 150. I'd rather have 4x 4.5's that score 120 each. An extra 20-30 points isn't worth the 1.5. Getting better midfielders will land more points.

As a palace fan Franca will play more mins this season but he usually plays on the L side. Most likely kamada will take olises mins unless we buy another R sided forward

Barnes over Gordon unlocks 1m. Provided he is fully fit and finds his spot in the XI during pre-season, I am confident that Barnes outscores Gordon this year.

Newcastle's priority this transfer window is to buy a starting RW. Baring injury and loss of form Gordon has that LW spot locked up. The only other way Barnes is getting into the starting 11 is if we don't get that first team RW and Gordon switches to the right. And even then Howe might just play Murphy at RW. Plus I see Gordon going from strength to strength, so it's highly debatable that Barnes would even outscore him on the basis of a great season from him, and we know he can reach double figures for goals in such a season.

I am going to go without Haaland. I honestly think you NEED him to play, start and be your captain in every game for 15M. I think spreading the funds around will give you a more rounded and flexible team for when injury's happen in your team or other events happen. If Haaland gets injured (and he did miss games in both of the past 2 seasons) your in a tough spot deciding whether to keep him or transfer. Its not easy to get him in or out. He could be what stops you getting to other in form players.

The points per million is a flawed argument not to have Haaland. Because Haaland has the highest ceiling and scores more hat-tricks and braces than any other player, he can score so many more points in one game that it can kill your rank. I went from 300k to 700k and my season was ruined when I went against Haaland captain when he scored 4 goals against Wolves. His ownership was around 70% but, even so, the combination of his high ceiling and his ownership can combine to hurt you. Let's say you choose other options in forwards or midfield, it is rare they will be able to match Haaland's massive hauls. My main lesson from last season and going forward is NEVER GO AGAINST HAALAND.

Mistake to only use points per million, as I’m sure you’re aware. The game is to maximise POINTS not points per million. I think if you looked at only PPM, you would have a lot of budget left.
