Some great calls. I have a few different calls for different situations . Here in Ireland we use reed for close up and hello type for longer ranges or windy nights.

Mate I've been waiting so long for one of you're videos I even check once a week I have been wondering for a while what the db results would be like between the best fox and the silver fox and clearly silver fox is the go you're videos always astound me and I learn lots from them I made a tenter field whistle worked great till I lost it after shooting a few foxes the cocky said what the heck is that bloody thing showed him told him all about it and even pulled in a few foxes I have tried to make a new one but i can't seem to make another one the same but after this video I am hanging to buy a new silver fox whistle

I found that the Silva whistle and the Apex whistle work best were I hunt and the Predator call. Also bird call's on my foxpro, I never had and luck with the Best Fox Call. Bird calls are really good for foxes

I agree Max, they are the only two commercial ones I'd recommend. What bird calls have you had luck with? I was thinking of trying to use a sound lure for trapping if only to experiment, I put together a solar powered caller the other day.

Excellent vid. and being an amateur radio operator DB gain is a wonder;s thing. The secret for a shooter whistling is that he doesnt become breathless, as heavy breathing effects accuracy, Enjoyed your vid immensely. Well Pete

The pipe whistle looks very interesting. A diy guide would be great, at a guess it is pinched off in a vice and hole drilled, I would be great to find out the dimensions (hole size and placing). Thanks for the vid.

I've always liked the button whistle for being the least intrusive to carry. It's comfortable around the neck and I've called in thousands of foxes with them. The reed calls are definitely designed to mimic a Hare (or Jack Rabbit). I use a Scotch Predator Call a fair bit. If there's not many rabbits in the area the young foxes rarely respond to it, having never dined on rabbit, I suppose. But the Predator Call always gets their attention. On the many properties I hunt, I get the same results using them on the farm dogs. They'll look to a whistle but a predator call always seems to excite them. Now if only I could find one that's smaller. If I'm shooting from a vehicle it's OK, but when on foot, I remove the bellows off it and just blow through it. It also does a great job calling in Hares and Crows. Fantastic comparison vid, mate! Love your work!

Interesting comparison but I think you are overanalysing it. They all work. Even sucking air through pursed lips works. What is more important is the ability to make the call/whistle speak "fox" language. You need to make them say "I'm injured, I'm trapped, I'm distressed, I'm in mortal danger". The more frantic the sound, the better. That's when the foxes really take an interest.

My favorites were the bombala, silver and Best reed. They sounded the most authentic.

The only issue I have is that some of these whistles are not meant to sound like rabbits, but have been based off them. Also whistling in areas without rabbits with some of these whistles still brings in foxes. So maybe it doesn't need to sound like a rabbit. Great video though. Watched this one a few times

None of the whistles compare to a jam tin lid bent like the above but with a 2 " nail hole punched through. Somehow the jagged edges of the nail hole really imitate the rabbit squeal. I think it's the rough edges. Drilling the holes loses that effect.
