Now, in some states, when one uses a .22 lr to control vermin etc., that weapon becomes illegal because of visually intimidating things like pistol grips, muzzle brakes, etc. I'm all for gun control, but we need firearms experts, mental health experts experts weighing in on legislation and with more regard to distribution. Take my home state's(CA) laws for example: a certain type of rifle's magazine release can not be easily employed. This does nothing to the criminal from out of state.

If I'm defending my home from an intruder, I want the best thing out there. A semi-automatic rifle in .223 is one of the best choices out there for home defense, due to several reasons, the fact that .223 will penetrate less than 9mm being one of the main ones. Large capacity magazines give you an advantage, as well. There was a woman in the news who successfully defended her home with a revolver, but had to fire all six shots in order to stop the guy. What if there had been multiple attackers?

Have you heard of a phrase by the name of "Semper Paratus"? Always prepared. It is incredibly important to survival. There are many situations where high capacity, rapid fire, semi auto guns are necessary. The likelihood of these situations is sometimes a bit slim, but to stay safe one should prepare for the worst and hope for the best. These assault weapons may not be necessary now, but if all the power went out, an invasion while we are invading, or anything like that, then you'll want them.

Definition of the gun is absolutely a valid point, both for the pro-gun AND anti-gun lobbyists. By the misnomers' definition, an "assault rifle/weapon" is exactly the same as nearly EVERY other common firearm however, handgun restriction is not viewed as a priority while only "assault" weapons are being prioritized because of their menacing looks and public confusion. The assault weapon ban that was in place for a decade did almost nothing to deter crime. The wrong things are being looked at.
