I'm an old dude I've never been looked down on when I was a younger flyer. I don't care to hang out with most seasoned flyers. They're snooty, know it alls full of their own superiority, too engrossed with the hobby to know anything about life except rc flying. I don't really care what you've stuffed your plane with.... I didn't ask you nor did I ask for tips and tricks. I can get all that and more for the asking on forums. As such I prefer to fly alone.

I actually prefer to either fly alone or with my son. The local flying club (AMA) is all plane and heli guys who seem to hate their own lives almost as much as they do drone pilots.

Hey Flight Test Happy New Year 2021 I hope you guys make an updated fpv episode and show how it connects into a RC plane. Going through it all, I understand how it works but cause we don't have a hobby shop local. I have no idea how it actually connects or what connectors I would need to buy. As everything is online! I don't want to have to buy things just to solder and change around wires. Buying this circuit board or that guessing as I go cause store pages just show parts not what goes with it. The industry is getting better but there is still a lot of guess work in making your own craft.

The craze lately is all about drone racing.. you guys should try fpv air racing with normal winged aircraft. I think that would be pretty cool to see at something like FliteFest and on the channel.

I would be nice to fly with my brother or get my friends into this, but this hobby is so darn expensive that it probably won't happen. even trying something cheaper like building foam planes, $17 for a sheet of foam, $22 for a motor $20 for an esc, $25 for a receiver, $4 X 4 ($16) for servos, $25 for a battery. then there is hot glue tape, props. and then when you crash buying replacement parts, none of my friends have that sort of money to just spend. that list is all ready about $125, and then with hobbykings shipping cost $25, it all adds to around $150 and that's just for a single "cheap", formboard plane.

+Ultra RC Uhhhhh go to your local dollar store. I think it cost me an whopping $10 to build the FT3D flyer, of course this didn't include electronics which will always be an investment; however you hardly ever kill electronics unless you are doing something severely wrong. Here the exact same foam board is $1.25 a sheet and it took me just under four pieces to build my plane. Same dollar store had hot glue guns and glue for $1 each and I picked up some wooden craft dowels to use as spars in the wing for $1.25 for ten of them. It isn't as expensive as you would think if you shop around.

I live in New Zealand where the cheapest you can get foam board per sheet is $17, a roll of tape is $8, hot glue is $16 for a 10 pack of hot glue sticks. And the currency value isn't the best at the moment, 1NZD = $0.70USD, it also costs $30 in shipping to get anything from Australia to here! Also that $30 you pay takes about 1.5 months to get here (via an actual boat). Man you guys over in the US have it lucky

Is there an easy way to switch channels on an fpv setup? I want to use FPV on my drone, but also use an FPV camera right on the headset. That way, I can quickly and easily look do a line of sight check or actual FPV.

You can also just go to banggood.com and select a fpv transmitter+camera kit and a diversity monitor. Sets you of around 100 dollar for everything. I believe the eachine lcd fpv diversity monitor was 70 and the eachine fpv camera+ transmitter was 30

not sure how flying miles away is illegal... On the FAA website, it says that you only need to keep the craft in LOS if you are doing it for work. It says nothing about range restrictions but only mentions that you cant fly within 5 miles of an airport and you have to be under 400ft (which is plenty high). The only "range restriction" would be your power output, which isn't a range restriction but it would, intern affect your range. www.faa.gov/uas/faqs/ aaaaanndd www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/ The FAA seems to be more lenient then you guys put them up to be.

I have a boscam kit and I took the antenatal off while it was on and I took both of the off thinking it was cool that it didn't need antennas. It works but I think the transmitter is getting warmer than usual

So if I buy a Eachine TX03 with up to 200mw and 72 channels but only stay at 25mw and between 5.725-5.875 it’s still illegal because it’s not a FCC part 15 certified transmitter. However if I get my Ham license then I can use the higher power and different channels. Correct?

You said the clover is a Omni. That is not correct. The Clover is Circular polarized but its more than a omni. The dipole is Omni. Omni has a 360 pattern like a donut with a null off the tips and or feed end. But it can be vertical, horizontal polarized or something in between. The clover may have a slight null below it due to feed line but it has more of a globe pattern. Thus eliminating the nulls a dipole has. Plus with circular polarization when doing flips or rolls you don't have attenuation as you would with a dipole. When two antennas are opposite polarization its 3db attenuation. I think its 3db could be more i forget. But its a significant attenuation. A Helical is a directional antenna. It is circular polarized. Its opposite of a Omni which is 360 degree.

I've just got into the idea of building and flying a fpv quadcopter. I'm very new to this, and it seems like the knowledge needed to do this is very specific depending on what you intend to get out of your drone. One of my main concerns is buying the wrong parts for the job, or paying too much/ too little for them. I've been looking at a fat shark teleporter v5 goggle bundle. They include an fpv camera with receiver. But this particular receiver is fcc certified. I understand that this means it's legal to use without a licence, but I've also heard bad things about the performance of fcc receivers. Would I be better off to just get a fcc receiver for my baby steps into this hobby, or should I just go for a licence or more reliable alternative? Thanks.

I just found out why I was getting rubbish fpv signal. I had an Rp-Sma plugged into an Sma (I think)(no center pin connection at all. just an air gap) scary thing is I've flown it multiple times. I'm surprised it even worked
