SIN: THE GREATEST PROBLEM As long as they did not sin against their God they prospered, for the God who hates iniquity is with them. But when they departed from the way he had prescribed for them, they were utterly defeated in many battles and were led away captive to a foreign land. The temple of their God was razed to the ground, and their towns were occupied by their enemies. -Jdt.5:17-18 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. -1Jn.2:1-2 Sin is a very big problem even though many people do not realize it. It breaks our relationship with God and with one another. The consequences of sin can bring untold damage to lives and even diminish happiness. Therefore is a big problem as “apart from me you can do nothing” (Jn.15:5). Sin is selfishness, a deliberate option to do evil. The word of God teaches us that “If you choose, you can keep the commandments, and to act faithfully is a matter of your own choice” (Sir.15:15). Sin blocks our life and prosperity as seen in Isaiah 59:1: “See, the LORD’s hand is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.” It’s our sins that make the Lord not answer our prayers. Sin doesn’t just affect the one who commits it, it has a social impact. Sin is ingratitude, failure to acknowledge the goodness of God.
