Hey, Father, our associate Pastor, now deceased was the same way. He use to ask the Charismatics, " hey, have you been bit by the Holy Spirit today"? He thought Charismatics were just a bunch of overly emotional, easily swayed people who liked do a lot of talking and then one day his bother who was a fallen away Catholic, told him he had cancer and asked him what he should do. I quote, " get your rearend ( but he didn't use the word rearend) to mass and make a good confession. " His brother said, there is a Charismatic Healing Prayer group I want to go to will you come with me. Well our priest did not want to hang out with those " crazies", but he went with his brother. Guess who got bit with the Holy Spirit? Our anticharismatic priest who eventually became the Chaplain for no less than 3 charismatic prayer groups for the remaining 20 yrs of his life. His beloved brother died in peace in the state of grace.

Oh the Holy Spirit helps me so much with my prayer life and compels me to stop and talk random people who turn out to be in need. God is awesome ❤️ 🙌

Gift of tounges helps me communicate and pray from my heart, can feel God's presence know with absolute certainty as I never was very eloquent with my words but I know God understands my tounges. I often cry and know at times is intersessory for someone often a person I haven't seen for decades. They remain on my heart so I keep praying for them even in English too until I'm no longer drawn to them. Love God and trust in Him! .

HSdriven I totally agree. I pray in tongues quietly for 30 minutes each day...I time it. When I start, I feel God’s presence descend on me. It feels like two warm hands resting on my head....all I feel is Love. This is meant to be normal for every Catholic.

Ha, ha, ha... This was a funny story Father Mark. You made me laugh. The same happened to me the first time I visited a Charismatic Prayer group (adults) in my parish, and also the second time (youth group). It took me years, study of the Word of God and divine revelation to accept and feel at ease with the ways of the Holy Spirit. You kind of really touch Heaven. After the Holy Spirit touches you, He does make you a servant. He made me a 'prayer machine'! I can't stop praying for everyone, family members, friends, strangers in the street, people I meet every day, ... He's unstoppable. But He gives me absolute DELIGHT in doing it. We are a good team.

I was part of the Charismatic movement many years ago and it seemed to disappear. How can I find Charismatics in my areas? I miss it and never felt closer to God than when I prayed that way and felt the gifts of the Holy Spirit, especially being with other Charismatics. 🙏💖

The gifts of the Spirit in Acts were specific to that situation according to the 2000 year Tradition of the Church, or are we to believe that all the ecumenical heresies since V2 have suddenly enabled us to experience them?

I prayed for the gift of speaking in tongues when I was younger, but nothing happened so I gave up.

Marianne Hedström Marianne....not everyone gets the gift of tongues. It’s not scriptural to say that everyone gets ALL the gifts of the Spirit. You can always get prayed with again. It’s extremely important that you hold no unforgiveness in your heart, have repented of all involvement in the occult...tarot cards, ouija boards, astrology. Any of these will drive the Holy Spirit away.

@@vickersonp Thank you. Yes and I can feel the Holy Spirit in other ways

Marianne Hedström With tongues you can sometimes free up the gift by starting to pray out loud like the Our Father and then letting it evolve into tongues. I prayed yesterday with a lady for the gift of tongues and I told her to pray the Our Father out loud. I asked her how she went and she said...I tried three times to pray the Our Father but other stuff kept coming out. Lol I told her when that happens again to stop trying to say the Our Father and just let the tongues flow. My wife only got one word when she was prayed for ...this developed over time and now she has a very large tongues vocabulary. In any case it’s the least of the gifts.

There is so many theatricals , drama and fake tongues. I do not trust those guys. I stuck to my Catholic faith, to my basic catechism. No fireworks, no freak shows, no , padre.

To me, Charismatic groups are practicing mass hysteria akin to some primitive tribes who dance themselves into a trance in pagan rituals. I ask people who claim to have the gift of tongues and speak in what can only be called gobble di gook, how can they understand the meaning of what they are saying. My understanding is that the original gift of tongues giving to the Apostles at pentecost was the ability to be understood in many languages whilst speaking their own language and visa versa. Padre Pio had the true gift of tongues, hearing confessions in many languages and understanding them despite having never learned another language and only conversing in Italian.

Our Catholic people don’t know what they are missing. You happen to be one of very few Priests who understands the charisms of the Holy Spirit. I noticed that a Church who has a charismatic prayer group seems to be more alive and one without looks dead. We need to put into action the gifts of the Holy Spirit. That’s what’s missing in our Church.
@betyg46064 жыл бұрын
Sorry Father, but I don't agree. This movement has been around for a long time and has yet to gave the desired effects on the whole church, unlike the return to the use of the tridentine mass in recent years which has spread in every diocese and is helping to bring back authentic expression and understanding of the eternal. Here in Chicago the fruits of the Charismatics has been them starting their own churches. I know the Holy Spirit came to me at Confirmation and has guided me since.

I can't do this type of praying. I'm not criticizing it, it just not for me. How, when the Holy Spirit comes to is all that matters. God Bless....

The fact is that the apostles and disciples were powerless before Pentecost. It wasn’t until after they were zapped by the Holy Spirit that their fear dissolved and they went out boldly to proclaim the gospel and build Christ’s Church. Mary is the greatest charismatic of all. One of her titles is “Spouse of the Holy Spirit” or as I like to call her Mrs Holy Spirit....She’s married to the Holy Spirit!!!!. The Holy Spirit is essential for a believer to grow in holiness and to become effective in proclaiming the gospel. Without the Holy Spirit you’re just a pew warmer....sorry, but that’s true.

Poor Father Bedard. Don't think he ever got over the shooting. The Charismatic stuff makes me think he lost the plot as it is completely bonkers but to each his/her own.

Forgive me father, but this is not for me. Baptism of Holy Spirit? One Sacrament of Baptism in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Confirmation, Eucharist are not good enough? I don't want easier time during prayer or speak what I don't know, if I don't get it from our Church. I don't want another baptism from any group. This is a big red light for me. Perhaps Christ didn't want to just give someone easy time in prayer, perhaps he wanted him to continue striving for it, we can't know. And also I believe demons are more clever than us and can give us even good feelings or urges to pray, if this is the only door to one's soul they can get and it comes from them. Better than nothing, no? I think it can have serious consequences.

It’s from the Catholic Church. It’s a charismatic mass wherein one does some studies beforehand and then you are prayed over.
