Great video & comparison. In over 12 months of owning the GT1000, there are some amp types I haven’t even bothered trying yet. I much prefer a unit with even just 3 or 4 high quality amp models as opposed to having hundreds that rarely or ever get used. Both of these units have appeal, you won’t go far wrong with either.

Awesome and grest demos and comparison...I have both units, and really astonished that GT sounds so close to real thing. FM3 sounds a little bit muddy and under a blanket..may needs some tweaks in amp block which has so many parameters in this case...anyway a good video is solicited between newly introduced GT core and FM3 again. Both have parallel signal/fx paths but the fm3 can only have one amp at a time. The boss can have two amps in two simultaneous parallel paths which is a specific thing I care about. The fm3 has some ways to work around this to get some great sounds however it doesn’t have simultaneous dual amping and the boss does. Thank you for another great detailed review!

Hi Leo! Nice comparison! I prefer the real amp but Gt1000 sounds really good! Obviously 23 amp vs almost 300 amp on Fm3..... In this comparison i don't like the way it sounds the Fm3, too muddy. As you told gt1000 is ready for a live situation, moreover it's seamless in the patch changes with spillover delay and reverb and no dropout. 6 in 6 out are really good too... Boss needs to upgrade amps

Leo this is really another great video of yours: great piece of music, fantastic playing and clear comparison of the units, best video of this kind on youtube. You cleverly hook us with the units to make us discover your music, which I like, great idea. As to the units none of the two in this video shine. Of course as you record the real deal with outstanding knowledge and equipment the units would require tweaking to get close. An alternative way would be to use a load box (UAD OX or Boss Waza Tube, or Suhr or Two Notes ...... just decide for one you might have or like) and compare that way, which is replicable by most people as price-wise they are all not too distant from the floor units like these two (or the Kemper or quad cortex soon out). After all I think most people (especially non pros) would be quite happy with 5 or 6 great sounding models out of the box rather then 200+ that require extensive tweaking. At least so is for me. Thanks for all your work, it is great!!!

That demo song may have been my favorite of yours so far! Loved the groove! For me, I really like the units with a built-in expression pedal. Much easier to tote around and set up at a quick gig in my opinion. Once again, in a mix, only tone hounds like us can really tell a difference. Also, for the casual home player, some of the cheaper multi effects pedals can get close to these tones for a fraction of the price. Loved your video and your two cents worth. I liked your video as usual as I am considering an unit like these two. Now, a technical comment about the sampling characteristics: the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem says that a sampling rate more than twice the bandwidth of an analogue signal if sufficient to to capture all the information in that signal. Considering the extreme value of 20KHz as the audio bandwidth, 48KHz is a solution enough above the limit. You can use MHz of sampling frequencies if you want but that will change zero in the quality of the image of the analogue signal in the digital world. Regarding the 32 vs 24 bit sample resolution, my opinion is that the quality improvement is not zero but for practical purposes can be considered as so. In conclusion, I leave you my opinion regarding the classification (reds and greens) of this type of equipment. I would consider equal for sound purposes anything above 48KHz / 24 bits.
@LeoGibsonGtr4 жыл бұрын
Hi thank you so much!!! Thank you also for sharing your opinion and experience! As regards the 24 vs 32 bits, it is really a pity that BOSS does not share the dynamic range...with 32 bits it should be higher than the 114 db of the FM3....
@antoniomonteiro12034 жыл бұрын
@@LeoGibsonGtr I've not made tests above 24 bits. The maximum theoretical value of the dynamic range is 20 log (2^24) ~ 144 dB. With 32 bits the theoretical value is the absurd value of ~193dB! If the value achieved in practice is much lower, certainly because of other factors there is no advantage in using more than 24 bits. It may make sense for other more in depth engineering reasons but to be frank I don't know which. On the other hand, regarding the sample rate, there are some obvious advantages and disadvantages in increasing it: The main disadvantage is that you have less time to do the processing or, in other words, you need more DSP power to do the same; One big advantage is that you are farther away from alias, which allows you to have less demanding low pass filters to avoid it.

Also liked the Boss more, it has a more natural high end than the Fm3. I was near to buy it, it was my favourite sounding multi-effect (at least from your reviews jaja), but it looks quite difficult to dial in :( and I need a tool for composing not for appreciating the tone beauties jaj in that regard I'd better get a big boy amp and all the pedals in the world... !. Finally, I bought the POD Go from my local dealer, I'm satisfied with the tone but mostly with the ease of use and interface. Plug, quick set and "Go" (precise name). I'm more focused on playing and composing from out of the box without reading any manual jaja. If Boss put the interface of the POD (or Zoom G11) I'd surely have no doubts in selling my Pod and buying the Boss multi-effect jaja. They should hire Line 6 or Zoom designers and release a " Boss Go"? jajaj As always, great video Leo. Now I just watch your comparisons for the great demo song and for the fun of seeing you playing with all the new toys jaj!

The Fractal sounds rounder like a tube amp imo. But that doesnt mean the Boss sounds bad at all. I think the FM3 is probably better at sound quality where the Boss is going to give a better range of presets for those who dont want to get into the FM3 software. The FM3 has an astounding amount of stuff. It almost has everything ever made anyone is going to mention in a guitar conversation. Its mind blowing.

hello Leo...thanks for your videos they are great... Please, I want to tell you the following: I am a user of the fractal brand... and among other equipment I bought an fm3 some time ago... in the details of the comparison in item block=57 for fm3 and 24 for GT1000, I think there is an error. for the FM3 you can't use more than 11 blocks, including the AMP/CAB, so there are only 9 blocks available... as long as you don't use high reverb or high delay or CAB Ultra Res because the CPU doesn't allow more than 6 block in this case... that is, using maximum quality only 6 block... in the case of the boss gt1000/and core....it is always possible to use the 24 block... I sold FM3 and bought Boss now which is much more versatile and easy to edit... even though you can only load 16 IRs, it is more than enough for any user... being a fractal FX3/AX8 user, I never used more than 10 IRs... Today I only use Boss GT1000/and Core...it's very versatile and easy to edit...and adding IR Celestion has an amazing sound at much lower cost than Fractal.... I recommend Peoducts GT1000 they are very good, very reliable and versatile (I never met anyone with a failure in a Boss product, many problems with neural quad, Mooer, Nux)

Leo, were both modelers used the presets ONLY or did you modified/adjusted each to see if they can actually sound like the real Marshall amp? The reason why I'm asking, it seems like the GT1000's alittle thin on the LOW and stronger on the highs. And the FM3 is strong on the LOW but alittle lacking on the High frequencies. I would imagined, if you tweak the EQ, both (GT1000 and FM3) would sound similar like the Marshall. I'm I right, or??
@LeoGibsonGtr Жыл бұрын
Hi, I have use the same settings of the real amp, in order to give you an idea about how close or far the modellers are from the real deal, using the same settings. You can check out the settings in the more sound section of the video. If you tweak the modeller you can get closer: if with setting = to the real deal they are different, it's gonna be "more difficult" to get closer. Thank you!

Hi Leo, great that you did this comparison I asked you weeks ago.👍😀 I found it interesting that in the intro song all devices nearly sound the same (ok, l only listen through my iPad yet) and in the following comparison there are heavy differences especially regarding thr high end. But it is as you said: FM3 has so much possibilities in tweaking. For sound tweaking I love videos from Leon Todd - there I was wondering how deep you can go into the menus - and the sound is wonderful. But for me the GT-1000 is the better choice, because I love the size, need more footswitches and an expression pedal and love the computer SW (looks like real amp 🤗) and bluetooth possibility. And: I haven't found a Fractal dealer in Germany... P.S.: Because of your wonderful sound in your videos I just bought your Essential IR's today. I'm curious how they will sound with my GT-1000 this evening 😀
@LeoGibsonGtr4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Michael really appreciated and of course I can't say thank you enough for the purchase of my IRs..it really means a lot to me!!! I do agree with you, in a mix it is harder to tell the differences, even if the basic difference are present (simplifying a lot: the GT has more pronounced highs and the FM3 has more pronounced bass and mid). Of course we can go deep with the parameters tweaking, especially with the FM3, that has literally an incredible amount of parameters to check and tweak. Thank you once more!!!!

@@LeoGibsonGtr Hi Leo, I've tested first IR now (Greenback - SM57). First I put it to any patch of mine, I was not so happy - internal IR was much better. Today I compared to this video and I tried "Brit Stack" amp with settings in your video - I got my smile back :) Great sound - really! I don't know how much my sound will differ from your sound (I tested with 35 years old Ibanez Musician and ADAM A7X), but in comparison sound was near at your tone in video. What was interesting, too: I tried to tweak sound to compare to your real deal (Plexi, Real Greenback, SM57), because your sound of GT-1000 has too much high and less low in this video and: I only have to push Bass up to 80 and I am so near. Had hoped you'd get around to comparing the GT1000 to the FM3, thank you, great work! The GT follows a different (more maverick) philosophy to other modellers, as you know it doesn't really try very hard to be 'traditional' where amps are concerned. I expected the FM3, to wipe the floor with it in this context of matching a specific Marshall tone, but what a surprise! I thought the GT rhythm tone was good, perhaps a little too bright, more JCM800 than Plexi, but the lead tone was stunning. The Fractal sounded like it was under a blanket? The amp was better than both, but that's probably my amp bias...see what I did there :-)
@LeoGibsonGtr4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Actually these are the resulting tones using the same settings of the real amp for both the GT 1000 and the FM3. It's interesting to notice that the FM3 is missing some high freq, and the GT 1000 is missing some bass freq. Given the much more tweackability of the FM3 we should get closer, on the opposite side, the GT 1000 has less parameters to use and is a little bit more close using the same settings of the amp. Thank you for your message!

Hi Leo. Great video! I have a cople of questions: 1. I would like know what is exactly what makes the FM3 less ready sound live. Besides the GT 1000 having more buttons, is it because the GT 1000 already has factory presets ready and the FM3 lacks them? 2. One thing that I like about the GT1000 (and line 6 products) is that it has also amps, cabs and effects for bass. Does the FM3 have also all that a bass player needs to sound? Or is the FM3 designed especially for guitarists? (I'm looking for a guitar/bass processor) Greetings from Mexico! 🌮🇲🇽

FM3 sounds like amplitube here sorry. I am pretty sure that can sound better except if Plexi it's not it's favourite. GT 1000 just nailed the amp tone here. Considering how well the AIRD feels I would choose it without any second thoughts

The FM3 needs some tweaking. I have no doubt it can match the plexi. Almost every aspect of every amp can be tweaked from tubes, to mods, to frequency response to separate preamp changes to power amp changes. Want to run a different tone stack... you can do it. Want to use a different preamp and power amp, you can do it. There are literally so many parameters, I believe you could create whatever tones you want without limits.

@@LeoGibsonGtr From a design standpoint, a comparison between the FM3 and GT 1000 Core would be better. As far as tones go, the GT-1000 has the typical Boss tones, not unlike my GT-6, but better and more flexible. The Boss tones sound "dated" to me. The FM3 seems to have more "modern" sounds, and because of that, I would choose it over Boss. Thanks

@@picksalot1 A review comparison to GT-1000 core would only be an update regarding hardware reducing (less connections, no bluetooth, less footswtches, no expression pedal, no sub outs...) - so: handling would be more like fm3. It sounds, that BOSS GTK was pretty close to Real Plexi with Real Greenback. FM3 was quite far from real amp, but I believe, that it is about EQ tweaking, because structure was similar... Leo I have asked you before, but have you loaded IR to BOSS (with GT-1000 IR Loader), or have you reamped it in DAW? This is very big difference.

@@LeoGibsonGtr yes, it sounds like that, but it was ON in DAW. When cab sims are off on GTK, amp sims sounds very very sharp. But I am very happy with this latest comparison. I have a genuine question. Why do you always use a Plexi when there’s lots of amps. Is this a personal preference? It would be nice if you could use some other amps instead of just the plexi.
@LeoGibsonGtr2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I try to use amps that I have, in order to compare the modellers vs the real deal...I've done videos with the Soldano SLO 100, the JCM 800, the deluxe reverb, the Mesa Lone Star...I would't say that I use only Plexi, even if the Plexi is a very good test for the modellers, as it is a very dynamic amp...that is something pretty difficult to emulate. Thank you for you message and your suggestions!
@davidwoods3584 жыл бұрын
I have no idea what I would do with the 277 amp models in the FM3. (Great playing and demo!) FM3 and Boss 1000 Core would be a great comparison, each with 3 foot switches, etc. 1000 Core is $699 US. The Boss seemed to lack some in low end girth and punch. I'm sure a bit of eq or different cab model could bring it up to par. Your reviews are honest and deep, I appreciate that.

Hello Leo Gibson, it is nice to see direct comparison videos like this. There is one small mistake though. You can have 4 parallel lines with Boss GT1000 too. If you can look at the Boss Tone Studio for GT-1000 software, Boss GT1000 has 3 DIV and 3 MIX blocks. You start with one path and use DIV1 on that path, then you will have 2 paths. If you use DIV2 on one of the 2 paths and DIV3 on the other path, each of the first 2 paths will lead to 2 paths each; in the end you will have 4 parallel paths in total. Even though you can have parallel 4 paths using Boss GT1000, the blocks are predetermined. In Helix LT/Floor and Fractal FM3, you have free blocks only limited by DSP power. Therefore, I guess in theory you can put 5 reverb effects one after another in both Helix and FM3 but not in Boss GT1000 (which has only 1 REV block). You will have more freedom with Helix and FM3. Also the user interface of Boss processors are from the previous decade while Helix, Fractal, Mooer all have colorful and easy to use graphical user interfaces. Helix and Mooer are easier to control on their own without an access to a pc which you do not need. Therefore, for other music lovers like me, I suggest getting a Boss GT1 when you are at beginner level to multi fx pedals if you really want to try the Boss effects. Boss GT1 -> Mooer GE250 -> Helix LT (or FM3 if you like) -> Kemper is the most logical path to follow in the world of processors, I think.

Hi leo. I realy like your videos...The Boss GT1000, (by my ear), has noticeably better (and more importantly truer) higher frequencies ( from high mids to presence). However, it lacks lower mids (body). Couldn't you try to align the lower mids with the output eq so that they are on par with the real amp? Also fine tune the higher freq on the FM3 and post a comparison with that fine tuning?

In my opinion in this situation it is quite interesting to notice that the GT1000 lacks some bass and the FM3 lacks some high frequencies...we would need to track the units...I'm pretty sure that the FM3 can get really close, but you have to spend a lot of time investigating and understanding the parameters...the GT 1000 on the other hand is a little bit closer without tweaking, but I'm not sure if it can get as close as the FM3 if we start tweaking.....maybe this is a topic for another video...😊 Thank you for sharing your opinion and for your message!!!

I am hoping that the Fractal effects will allow me an all in one solution, but still hanging on my strymon pedals until I am convinced! Your videos imo are the best that KZbin has to offer because you not only compare specs, sound, and user experience with the unit but provide your opinion as well which makes people reflect on what is important for them , which may differ from you. If I wanted to keep my effects pedals I would have bought the HR and use them in the effects loop for instance, but I only play at home and want to be able to play in different rooms with an all in one unit with no other pedals.
