(It still sounds like a queer tragedy, wanting to die in order to avoid censoring yourself and living under scrutiny, but) Then the twist coming along and saying 'don't give up, keep moving forwards'- which is a big theme amongst vocaloid tragedy songs- and a big thing when it comes to Akito and Toya's narratives. Akito, who 'slept' off his soccer. Toya who avoided the streets of classical music. Akito talking about his fear of being left behind. Toya ignoring his father's fire. Like??? Also, like, the entire song is filled with metaphors (as is most vocaloid music)- what makes the "ring" real? Is the cinema real? The alleyways? The out-of-service train (still running along)? Those all build up the atmosphere, comparing feelings to things that are real, putting them into words- why is "hiding the ring on my finger" about physically covering up a relationship and not [I hide my feelings and put on a show of losing my bearings] Sure, maybe not everything is gay, but y'all really have no imagination. Like. Not even just Fragile, bro, every single "I think this is about the harshness of being gay" songs gets some comment like "nOt EVeRyThIng iS gAy-" but their 'explanations' are just... hella reaching. Like sure, Yellow by Yoh Kamiyama might not be about queerness (even though they do talk about being in a closet), but seriously? 'It's about a serial killer who hides his victims in a closet'? Y'all reachin. There are SO many ways that you could kinda-sorta twist this into something hetero but- /If Akito and Toya are singing about cheating on/cheating with each other: It's still gay/ You're not even hetero-izing the song, you're just making the characters look like assholes. They don't /have/ to be gay- but Akito and Toya chose their own songs to sing if you want to take it the [character] route. But, if you go the writer route, someone specifically chose that song for these characters because it means something to them (Don't look at the conflict, look at me; consume me whole with your adoration). It doesn't HAVE to be gay, but if your gut response is to be like "It's not gay!!!" you need to look inside yourself and be less of an ass. If the song were between Akito and An or Toya and Kohane or some bs- would you still be reaching so far as to say that it's about cheating? Because of some one-off line about hiding a ring?

I don't really understand where or why tf people think this is about cheating (other than the singular line about hiding a ring that has almost nothing to do with the entire rest of the song) But, all in all, the song is about living a monotonous, censored life, while hiding your true feelings. It's about societal pressure forcing [someone] to live a life that they don't want (pretty in line with being gay) Also, just pay attention to the ending verse where it ties up a lot of the ends "Don't sleep, put it into words" (in reference to 'sleeping when I should be sleepless') "Squint when you're face with bright light" (in reference to 'the streets lit up like fire')- I believe "Don't laugh" is in regards to the opening lines about "Laughing without a care" (as he (sees himself) slipping into the alleyways)

The majority tend to cling on to the idea that this is about two gay guys, when they gloss over the fact that this was originally sung by gumi, and the girl in the cover art covers her hand like in the lyrics. There is also the frames of text shown in the beginning of the video completely ignored, and mentions about the writer’s disassociation moving into adulthood. Automatically the assumption can be made that this about one’s true feeling, how it may be faked for society, how the writer might want to be perceived, and the impact of the writer’s new identity reflecting on the old. It is very easy to cling to the idea of how two guys are singing about relationships and hidden feelings, and how that can be interpreted as gay, but never make the realization that this cover does not change what the original song’s theme was about. Why would they choose Akito and Toya to sing this? This may be because they sound nice together and fit together better lore-wise (and not inherently in a gay matter). If people haven’t realized this, project Sekai is built so that each character has a buddy, and there is two duos for each group (i.e. Ichika and Saki, Minori and Haruka, Akito and Toya, Rui and Nene, Kanade and Mafuyu). Sure some duo are not as prominent as others, but their dynamic complement each other better (and I mean initially for these duos, I have yet to read far into the event stories, but this is what prosekai may have intended). Akito and Toya were made as a duo and their relationship can be seen as two close friends, or a gay couple. I am not rejecting the idea that they being gay with hints is impossible due to the presence of some themes that teasing the idea, but the culture in Japan is different compared to all over the world. Same sex relationships do not equal a romantic one all the time, although a good proportion of the prosekai community act like it does through shipping culture.

I think this song might be about a girl breaking up with this boy, and the boy trying to move on from it, but is deeply affected by the breakup. He wants the girl to stay close to him and talk to him again, but he also wants her to stay away from him and move on from him, out of care for the girl, he contradicts himself. He enters a down spiral of regret and confusion, not knowing what to do with his feelings. Some people say that the ring part of the song (2:28), implies he was cheating, but honestly I think that the girl might have given it to him, and after they broke up, since he still has an attachment to her, refuses to take it off. At the end of the song, literally the last two verses, it might be the girl wanting to get back with him, and the boy just asking her to suffocate him with her attachment. So the entire song might have went like this 1st: (0:00 - 1:48) After the break up, he is feeling terrible. Everything is dull, and still clutching onto the attachment he has for her. 2nd: (2:03 - 2:48) The guy runs into the girl while its raining in the city he lives in, after talking a little, he breaks down, (the part about losing his bearings), and tells her about his dilemma. 3rd: (3:40 - 4:30) The girl laughs as he looks into his eyes, seeing all the pain and hurt welled up inside of it. She admits that she still loved him after the break up, and she and the boy get back together, the boy asking her to suffocate him and his life with her love, to never leave again. I have yet to see an unbiased analysis of the song’s meaning with multiple perspectives. The majority tend to cling on to the idea that this is about two gay guys, when they gloss over the fact that this was originally sung by gumi, and the girl in the cover art covers her hand like in the lyrics. There is also the frames of text shown in the beginning of the video completely ignored, and mentions about the writer’s disassociation moving into adulthood. Automatically the assumption can be made that this about one’s true feeling, how it may be faked for society, how the writer might want to be perceived, and the impact of the writer’s new identity reflecting on the old. It is very easy to cling to the idea of how two guys are singing about relationships and hidden feelings, and how that can be interpreted as gay, but never make the realization that this cover does not change what the original song’s theme was about. Why would they choose Akito and Toya to sing this? This may be because they sound nice together and fit together better lore-wise (and not inherently in a gay matter). If people haven’t realized this, project Sekai is built so that each character has a buddy, and there is two duos for each group (i.e. Ichika and Saki, Minori and Haruka, Akito and Toya, Rui and Nene, Kanade and Mafuyu). Sure some duo are not as prominent as others, but their dynamic complement each other better (and I mean initially for these duos, I have yet to read far into the event stories, but this is what prosekai may have intended). Akito and Toya were made as a duo and their relationship can be seen as two close friends, or a gay couple. I am not rejecting the idea that they being gay with hints is impossible due to the presence of some themes that teasing the idea, but the culture in Japan is different compared to all over the world. Same sex relationships do not equal a romantic one all the time, although a good proportion of the prosekai community act like it does through shipping culture. I would like to hear you guy’s opinion about what the original song’s theme is. I really appreciated your explanation and thoughts! I read a comment where someone said the song was about two gay men not being able to date because of the japanese culture, that forbids homosexuality. However, this dynamic might not work in the original song, which was sung by only one person. Or maybe it could. But, you know, it’s not the first time Project Sekai does something like this, and it’s not the first time this something concerns Akito and Toya either. I’m talking about Aun no Beats; the fact that the Prosekai version is sung by two persons changes the meaning of the song. Even the situation described by the song turns out to be different from the original idea. The same is for King; originally the song was sung by GUMI alone, but Sega decided to make it a duet between Rui and Tsukasa. This way, it’s heavily implied that Rui and Tsukasa have some important relationship, such as the servant/king one. That’s why I think we shouldn’t consider the original meaning of the song that much, when we’re talking about Fragile or the two mentioned.
