Thank you for the honesty, man. I feel bad for the naive guys who actually believe influencers and spend a good chunk of money only to be let down when this "panty-dropper" fragrance doesn't actually get them the girl of their dreams. I love my fragrance collection but, honestly, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of actual compliments that I've received on my scent. Of course this kind of honesty isn't what generates clicks and that sweet ad revenue.

Finally the TRUTH!! I've always suspected that most of the time fragrance KZbinrs are reading off a Fragrantica list of notes set right beside the camera. With regards to compliments I don't care about them but they only happen on average once every three months to me who wears a different cologne every day. Not nearly frequently enough for me to form any opinion on which cologne gives the most compliments so bravo for calling out the BS. You have a fan for life. 😉

Only 4 fragrances of my collection of about 140 have ever gotten me compliments: 1 Million EDT, Kouros, Dunhill Desire, and Ombre Leather EDP. I have so many more expensive fragrances that never got me a single compliment. You're absolutely bang on about how rare fragrance compliments actually are in reality.

Gospel truth: I'm a relatively attractive 30-something guy in a college town and I get almost non-stop compliments on my necklace and apparel than I do on even the Creed fragrances I wear. Unless I'm wearing a Chanel or CDNIM, I rarely get complimented on my fragrances.

I test fragrances projection by asking people around me. I test longevity by working out with frag while doing intensive cardio (see how long it lasts thru the sweat). I find that mr smelly is telling us facts

Excellent! Regarding compliments, some of these long time reviewers probably have a thousand bottles, but they say that they wear the one they are reviewing all the time. Not possible. I only have about 50 fragrances, with new samples coming in from time to time, and there are several that I have not yet gotten around to wearing more than once. And the notes? I have never been able to smell mint in Eros, but several reviewers have said that it is a mint bomb!

Yep happened to me when I got Dylan Blue, turned out to be kind of a garbage fragrance next to my other fragrances (mind you I’m a gourmand guy and I don’t give two rat plushies about what girls think about me, I’m gay) and tbh cheaper fragrances smell WAY BETTER than their $200+ counterparts. It’s all a scam tbh go get yourself some cheapies you liked and test them before you buy.

I can only relay my own experiences. I'm not geeky, I don't have an old craggly face, but I'm no bathing beauty either. Average looks.Certain fragrances have worked in my favour and women have approached me asking what I'm wearing. It's dependent on what event, party, or club you're at.how you're dressed and what level of confidence you exude. The most surprising was at a bank. Where a rather young woman kept looking back at me. If you sit at home and only go to the grocery store in your chav romper chances are you it won't matter if you're wearing Amouge or Axe. My point is no, it's not all BS, and certain fragrances will indeed attract some people to you at certain events and in certain circumstances. I was skeptical of such claims initially myself.

Why when I wear Eros Flame in summer I stop smelling it after 1hr and when I ask someone close if they smell it, they say No as well? I have noticed that where a person lives and the fragrance they wear determines compliments. For example, in the south of the U.S. people are more at ease to come up to a stranger and compliment him or her. However, you won't get many compliments if you live in NYC but can get quite a few in L.A. BR540 and Musk Therapy, for example, got me a few compliments in a low compliment city. In the end, wear it for yourself rather than public recognition. If the latter then you have to work on yourself.

I actually receive comments quite frequently... at work, stopping by the store, at the doctor's office, virtually anywhere I go, but I do live in the south of the US, and you're right about people generally being more at ease to compliment a stranger I think. I figured most fragrance enthusiasts got complimented often... I never factored in location.

Also you have to consider if people are rich or poor, educated or not, the nationality, etc Also where do you go using the fragrance… if you go always to the same places and see the same people, and these never compliment, then probably you will never get compliments Here in Brazil no one will ever stop you at the market and compliment a fragrance.. but I can imagine that happening in US I guess also how you look also is a factor.. some people get stopped to answer random question and some people are never bothered for some reason… so it’s all subjective

It’s because most of us men are generally visually focused. So, we really think if we look good and smell good that this alone will seal the deal. It’s already been proven that women are not visually focused (albeit if you’re a total mutt it will not be easy), but are almost entirely attracted to the mental prowess of the man and his ability to communicate clearly. I think you have done this too but, a lot of reviewers have a bias towards certain brands and give them good reviews to get deals with certain fragrance brands or free bottles with them. Roja Parfums being a good example.

I don’t know about others but one thing is for sure. Can they really smell certain ingredients from scented water? I had an opportunity to smell and have a small amount of expensive sandalwood extract. I couldn’t even detect tiny resemblance from sandalwood base fragrances, not even from Le Labo’s Santal 33. Do the fragrance youtubers know what ambergris smell like? I spoke the truth about that. As he said they can only say boozy, fruity, smoky, citrusy, sweet, etc if they are given unknown perfume without any information. They are just regular human beings. If they can really pick out individual ingredients, they can work at the airport sniffing through the luggage.

I suppose that's why wisdom takes time. As for olfaction, it's certainly beneficial to familiarize yourself with common aroma chemicals. Its true i brought so many fragrances this past year, none complement monsters. The one i do get lots of compliments and i have been using it for years since it was release is armaf club denuit intense man. I have been trying to find something that gets attention like it nothing yet.

The only thing that I can agree with these reviewers about is when here in middle east on summer days it's so noisy to wear heavy notes like oud , spicy notes , Smoky notes because of the high heat , you really feel like that your skin is not getting enough air .

Not a real winter or fall or whatever here.

@@Freskavena1 it's not that, some fragrances are very dense....so high heat can make some overbearing or too strong...next time try wearing Dior homme Parfum/intense or br540 in the high heat, see if it's too much. But when the day time is breezy n cloudy, I can get away with most of the fall/winter fragrance...my favorite fragrance is Nishane Ani which is classed a winter fragrance...I work in the ac so...I wear whatever most of the time.

@@HeavenlyDemon592 missing the point. The thing of it is that we cannot buy frags here based on the notion of seasons, cause we do not experiment or see real changes. What makes sense here is wear our frags considering the occasion office, club, etc. Heat is a factor for sure, but is a matter of common sense and not the jargon from some youtubers, not this guy of course.

I'm telling you....it's not set in stone...I'm telling you to experiment yourself n see the reactions for yourself....wear Bentley for men intense when it's very hot....wear it then tell me your reaction n other's reaction. One of my favorites is Parfums de Marly Herod, n I would never wear it in the high heat because that's when it becomes offensive. I wear any n everything to the office...some are best suited for time of day n events....but nothing is set in stone...however u have to remember how fragrances react on your skin, consider your environment.

Great video. I follow ALL of these popular KZbinrs, but the hyperbole and exaggerations became obvious early, so I diminish all of the obvious overstatement. I have a robust collection and have worn fragrance daily for at least 3 years. I am an average looking guy. Have received about 5 or 6 compliments in those 3 years. I do know what they mean by "well blended." Only that the notes seem to work well together. Some fragrances seem a garbled mess. Love what you do! Thank you!
