Absolutely brilliant lecture! And all of those original perfume pieces were a delight to the eyes! I would just slightly disagree on the 2010's view though. Tom Ford's Private Blend collection, Chanel Les Exclusifs, Dior Prive Collection, Guerlain L'Art et la Matiere, Frederic Malle, all came out in the 2000's. In my view, the 2010's could be described as the boom of niche perfumery.

I was present for this & it is by far the best fragrance related presentation I’ve ever been to! Roja remains my number 1 fragrance brand, you listen to the man & you just fall in love with perfume all over again! A true legend!

It was Estée Lauder that stole the story. The story goes, that saks 5th avenue wouldn’t make an order of her perfume Youth Dew because they only really wanted French Brands. She dropped a bottle in the store and everyone around was mesmerised by the smell. The reactions of the other customers persuaded Saks to take an order of Youth Dew. I used to work for Estée Lauder and they always spoke about this story to us. I realise now, it was a story they stole from Coty

How do all these old perfumes that Roja owned not go off?

What you have to realise is early perfumes were basically a mix of pure oil extracts and applied with a dabber... perfume oils don't really go off, they can evaporate over decades if not sealed correctly, hence why you often see bottles from the 20s 30s and 40s with a brown / black glue like substance in the the bottom for that reason. But when it became fashionable to spray perfumes with the first type of bulb sprayers they added perfumers alcohol to create toilettes, which also wasn't an issue, the problem has been the introduction of water into perfumes in more modern times, and it's the edts and colognes that can go off, not all but some do... whereas I don't have one antique or vintage pure parfum that's turned bad in anyway in my collection, and some are over 100yrs old.
