I hate fragrances and found most to be very cloying and sweet, Encre Noire is the fragrance that made me a fraghead. I was going through a phase of depression when I first blind bought and sniffed Encre Noire. Encre Noire made me feel comfortable with myself and after I tested it a few more times, I found the fragrance to bring a bright and cozy mood. Your video on Encre Noire helped me validate the blind purchase of the fragrance that kinda changed my life now. At my current point in fragrance journey, my collection grows exponentially and my current favourite is Tiziana Terenzi Laudano Nero. I used to hate Iris and I'm now trying to understand Iris as a beautiful note in perfumery.

I sort of had the opposite experience, but it at least helped me learn what I do and don't like. And it's so damn cheap that I don't regret it at all.

The gateway for Brazilian teenagers in the 90s was the perfumes by O Boticário - specifically, in my experience, one called North Wind, that was inspired by Tsar. But I remember clearly my father and uncles wearing Brut or Safari or Azzaro pour Homme. My first "proper" fragrance per se was Fahrenheit (actually it was my brother's) - it was 1994 if I'm not mistaken. And it started it all. The interest first, then the research and a decade later some cash to start the actual collection. The first expensive one was GIT.

My first ever perfume was Jil Sander Man 1 (1981) it was rumored that it was the perfume of choice for our beloved late King Fahad so i bought it and fell instantly in love, such a unique smell sadly it got discontinued, recently i have visited a local museum dedicated to our late kings and found a bottle of Jil Sander Man 1 on display in the museum, the rumors were true then..

Jil Sander for Men was my fragrance during my last year of high school. I garnered so many compliments on it. I remember I immediately bought it upon first sniff, and i felt like myself when i wore it. Very confident, which is one of those ways how you know its special... Always felt comfortable in it, whereas other fragrances at the time, even if i liked them, sometimes made me feel worried they would be off putting to at least someone? I don’t know.

A stunning coincidence! At 14, I was also fascinated with my father's Polo and loved wearing the stuff almost daily. Definitely not as many sprays though! CK's Obsession for special occasions.

Great video. Love hearing how you all got hooked. For me, from the late 70's to 90's all I really wore was Jovan Musk for Men. Then I worked in a scent free environment and did not begin to wear fragrances again until 2019. I started with Coach for Men. The one that broke the dam was Chanel Coromandel. As soon as I smelled that I had to have a bottle. Within a year I have more than 75 full bottles in my collection.

Coromandel was one I coveted for years. Would always smell it whenever I passed through an airport, and wondering if I’d ever spend that much on a fragrance

The only class where I was the teacher's pet was in three years of drafting and woodworking. Many years later, I remember that the long departed Mr. Holso must have been wearing either Aramis or Givenchy Gentleman. I enjoy that combination of honey, patchouli and oakmoss.

I'd love to see a video getting to know you guys better. You're two interesting chaps. For me it was tom ford antracite. Polarizing fragrance but what made so curious was I went from being disgusted... To intrigued and eventually not being able to keep my nose away from my wrist. I'm still a little scared to buy a full bottle.

Quorum In the 90's, everyone was on the Aqua di Gio bandwagon I was a smoker and being a Blackjack dealer, I needed to mask my 20 minute break - every hour / 4 smoke per break, habit. Quorum somehow allowed the odour from the smokes to be a part of the fragrance. It was just brilliant. Apparently, the current iteration of Quorum smells like someone Trebuchet'd a WET 14th century spice merchant INTO a tobacco field.

Do either of you recall 'Phileas' by Nina Ricci? That was my first fragrance in the mid '80s (sadly discontinued some time ago). One other point - do fragrances keep for a decent time without going stale? I tend to store mine in their original cartons in the 'fridge and they seem to last.
@WaftsfromTheLoft4 жыл бұрын

In my early childhood I experienced my grandfather's Brute & Old spice and my father's Aramis & ck one. Then, when I was in middle school and high school I used to abuse Versace's blue jeans. Nostalgic! Then in uni I started using the original formulations of guerlain's lidge, ysl's la Nuit de L'Homme and Dior Homme intense. Finally I had my first niche experience with Frederic Malle's Portrait of a Lady and carnal flower. Ended up getting both after my first every niche purchases in Creed's Aventus and Silver Mountain Water lol.

Great stories guys! My father wore an aftershave selection by Colton called 9 flags! He had all 9 bottles. They were of Florence flask design with silver caps. Each bottle had a different country like Japan, England, Sweden etc. Well, after school we were were sniffing away in his room. That set is quite expensive now. My first real fragrance after Skin Bracer was Salvador Dali Pour Homme 87 created by nose Thierry Wasser! This stuff was Goth and smelled like an electrical fire. Count Dracula type fragrance. I think it was an Oriental Fougere? Perfect for wearing a cape and carrying a sword stick! Lol Need to pull out my old bottle. Perfect for warding off the Coronavirus.
