Something very cool that has happened many times with my flower shop mini phals is that they are not fragrant when I initially purchase them. But in the next year's bloom they have fragrance! It is always so pleasantly surprising to find out that the ones I thought weren't fragrant are actually fragrant once they get amazing care in my collection. I love it😊

They’ve been selling those first two mini phals at our local grocery store in Arizona and I was wondering if they weren’t a hybrid because of the scent and the leaves. Love hearing a little bit more about them! Beautiful haul!

Highly unlikely to find species in a grocery or big box store. There are also many fragrant hybrids, usually with some Polychilus ancestry. I wonder what made you question that they‘re hybrids because of their leaves, tho. Could you maybe elaborate that. Or do you refer to the mottling/pattern? Sometimes this trait gets passed on by the members of subgenus Phalaenopsis (e.g. P. philippinensis or P. schilleriana) or former Doritis now Phalaenopsis pulcherrima with mottled leaves. However, most species have green leaves. Especially Phalaenopsis pulcherrima is used a lot in hybridisation to create smaller/compact plants

Thank you so much Danny, you make me feel better about my own orchid addiction. I recently moved and am now relatively close (1hour drive) to Schwerter Orchideen, and so of course I had to go there, and I found it very hard to only buy four orchids (had my boyfriend not been with me I would have bought more for sure). Am already planning my next trip. 😱 The mini phals are very cute, I also find it hard to resist them when I see them in flower shops.

Hey Danny, I think the name of the pink scented phal is Phal. Miki Flora. I had it not long ago and indeed the fragrance was devine.

Altho in the Caribbean ... seven of my dendrobiums sent out spikes - and there's more coming out!! Yes, they usually bloom in October/November.

I have had the Dusty Bell and the Scentsation for over two years now and they are both amazing, let them grow and you’ll feel the power of the fragrance, the scentsation smells more citrusy and it’s wonderful. I’ve been looking for the Love Potion forever! Congrats on that haul! They where all awesome!

I have the same problem with oncidium types. The pseudo bulbs always always shrivel even though I water them and they looked perfect when I bought them. And when I do water them, the flowers wither and die. 🤷‍♀️ the humidity in my house never drops below 50% (I’m in the Pacific Northwest of the the USA) so I’m at a loss. Looking forward to hearing your experience.

The pink Phal that you have is Phal bellina x Phal Timothy Christopher.

My orchids are sprouting flower spikes already! The temps are in the 30s F here so it’s cold. They are in a sunny window so they’re warm in the day but cool at night. My heat is set at 65 F at night.

I have the red Oncidium Type Orchid and it can be found under the name of "Odontoglossum Chayenne". I keep it outside in the shade of a tree during the summer (in Southern Germany) , because it loves the cooler temperatures and higher humidity at night. When temperatures drop below 10 °C at night and don't exceed 18°C during the day I will bring it inside. Mine does have a light scent but only on the relatively recently opened blossoms. I sadly couldnt find any information about the parentage of this hybrid so far. I'm looking forward to your updates on your's!

The phalaenopsis in 4:56 is known as Love Potion , Phal Miki Flora , and u are right as it does have some bellina in it since it's a Phal Timothy Christopher x bellina hybrid. I did manage to find it here in the U.S at a Lowe's and I love it. Too bad false spidermites love em too.😢

The same thing happened to me with the bar that got stuck except it was my greenhouses metal bar and it was rusted and when I yanked it toward me in frustration it broke and went into my arm and sliced in a few layers of my arm and I had to get stitches on my birthday 😅

Danny, your new orchids are beautiful! I recently bought two miltoniopsis hybrids at the Downtown LA flower market about two weeks ago. I thought they were oncidiums, because I was too distracted by the beauty to check the tags 😅. One is Lillian Nakamoto, and the other is Hawaiian Splash “Kaplana.” It wasn’t until after I got them home that I learned what they are, but I’m happy to report that they’re both thriving at the moment! I’m a little worried about the summer, because it gets VERY hot here, and we do try to conserve air conditioning, because California is expensive lol. I am cautiously optimistic about not killing these, because these two are allegedly “the most temperature tolerant” of any miltoniopsis. Wish me luck 😂.

Few days ago I just bought a dusty bell version, I love the colors :) In France they call these perfumed phalaenopsis "papillon" : butterfly. I paid it 10€ Else I bought a strongly perfumed vanda to someone few weeks ago. OUAHHH it's even a bit too strong the perfume 😂 I never thought I would say that for an orchid :)

my tiny twinkle are building flowerspikes all over for 2 month now and also buds but these do not open. that's a first. for the last 2 years they bloomed wonderfully. what is their problem? I moved to another house in June, before they started with the spikes. they have a bright place without direct sun. I don't know what to do.

That red Oncidium looks like Oncidopsis Fran's Nymph (or possibly Oncidopsis Living Fire). Maybe that's a different hybrid, but they likely have some parents in common :) It's gorgeous!
