Not that I can't see that Ian was being a little facetious but just a side note for young Liberals you can be Liberal and not feel the need to find the racism in everything possible the same way you can be very right leaning for economic/business reasons while also not being a die hard religious person who is against gays/abortion etc etc

Its also possible to not be a liberal but acknowledge that something can be racist. Personally I think the scene he's talking about is problematic but not full blown racist like minstrels were. It's more racialist than racist. Like, it shouldn't really happen but to also not gonna cause mass protests or anything.

SupernaturalMonkey is it racist to put the terrorist bad guy in a music video credit scene? Was it making fun of him for being whatever nationality he is or was he just in a music video? If some metal band had done the same thing with Trump would it be racist and making fun of him for his skin color/nationality or would it be because (again, even as a very right leaning person) he's a dickhead most of the time I had to deal with idiots in college saying my white friends wearing kimonos they bought from target was cultural appropriation and I had internalized racism because me and my half Japanese family weren't in tears crying because my white friends thought kimonos felt nice and silky to wear

Ben I'd have to say your short assessment of Monster Hunter was the best review I've ever heard for the series. You summed up how fun and amazing it is to go up against these life like monsters and the joy that comes along with killing and capturing them. You even covered how being prepared for the fight is part of the fun. I loved watching your excitement spread onto the other allies faces. Kudos man, you convinced me to get into the series and I already am lol

Kyle, you could literally watch any Sniper School documentary and they use ghillie suits. There is one test that I remember from the US where soldiers are forced to make their own suits and hide in a given area while instructors walk about trying to find them using scopes, walking sticks, and other tools. They have to remain perfectly still and hope that the plants and sticks they gathered for their suit are put together well enough to fit into the environment.

Blindly Fumblin the fact that Ian even brings it up is already fucking dumb In almost every fucking episode he's in he brings this shit up some way and than says "well people hate me n e ways x)" It's annoying and derails the conversation to something stupid, and then he wonders why people hate him. siegeh25 I'm sorry, but I think you might be falling for a bit of confirmation bias here. For example, I'd invite you to point to any ways he has derailed the most recent Podcasts he has appeared on. I think if you listen closely he has stayed extremely close on topic the last couple times, and if he has strayed it hasn't been for significantly longer than any other panel members. For example, he contributed a lot of interesting insights about the recent voice actors strike. Please remember also that the whole point of Frame Trap is that it's a casual, rambling show. I suspect it's just that you think his opinions are "fucking dumb", so you notice them more when he goes off-topic. Then again if you just don't like the guy there's probably not much to be done about that. L&R

Hi Ben! I’m the guy who asked you on Twitter about tackling Owlboy on FT, so thanks for the great discussion. That is actually one of the games I'd really like to play but I’m holding out on (alongside Titanfall 2) because I’m still swamped with Deus Ex, XCOM 2, BF1 multiplayer, Infinite Warfare’s campaign and everything PS VR, so I don’t even know when and where to fit them in currently. I also have barely even touched Dark Souls 3, Steamworld Heist, Gravity Rush Remastered and Enter the Gungeon from earlier this year. I’m honestly happy there’s a little bit of downtime for me now to finish at least some of these until things start getting COMPLETELY out of hand in February and March (Switch + Zelda + Mario and who knows what launch titles, Horizon, Persona, For Honor, Nioh, potentially Mass Effect…). It might be a great time to be a gamer but also a very stressful one, as you can barely play half of what you might enjoy, especially if you also have family commitments, a fulltime job and other hobbies. Not that I’m complaining, but that’s just the way it is. However, there’s always time to ingest an extra-long and spicy episode of Frame Trap, really enjoyable discussions once again.

I do love Ian, but man if there aren't sometimes things he says/does that grind my gears. Not wanting to experience some top-tier games purely because they don't allow you to choose a female character is ridiculous! At the end of the day he's obviously allowed to pick the types of games he wants to play, but if that's seriously the only real reason he's no longer interested then that's some pretty poor reasoning. If it was the type of game, or the visual style, or maybe it doesn't have a compelling story then that would make a lot more sense and would be a lot more understandable because those are actually things that can make or break a game. The gender of your character? Not so much. That's why I don't get upset that I can't play a man in Tomb Raider for example. REALLY isn't a metric that has any meaning when applied towards a game being good or bad.
@Exist2Inspire87
@Exist2Inspire87 7 жыл бұрын
Why is that not a valid reason?? If he wants to play as female characters and a game does not offer playable female charcters, that's a totally valid reason to not play that game!? What are you even talking about?
@tharaxis1474
@tharaxis1474 7 жыл бұрын
You'll note I never said it was not a valid reason to not choose to play something. We are all allowed to decide to play or not play any game we want based on any reason we may or may not have. What I did say is that choosing to not play a game because it doesn't offer gender choice is not a GOOD reason because being able to pick your character's gender has zero bearing on whether a game is good or not and smacks more of wanting to dogmatically adhere to some principle rather than being willing to objectively evaluate things on their own merit. I would much rather have Ian try the game, and then say "you know, I just couldn't feel connected to the characters (because of race, gender, or whatever)" or "the storytelling just left me bored and disinterested" or even "there were too many technical issues and the controls sucked", because those are valid metrics upon which to judge a game good or bad for ones self, but to presuppose that you will not like a game purely because you cannot be the gender you want to be (or race or creed or whatever your reason may be) demonstrates pretty shoddy reasoning.
@boldlyfumblin
@boldlyfumblin 7 жыл бұрын
K but you don't get to decide the reasons someone doesn't enjoy something. Are you mad that Kyle straight-up doesn't like multiplayer shooters? Just coz he doesn't? We all agree there are too many great games to play right now - it's the whole point of this episode - so what does it matter if we try and limit our choices in personal, even arbitrary ways?
@tharaxis1474
@tharaxis1474 7 жыл бұрын
So I'm not going to bother going much further into the metrics of what one objectively should and should not judge a game on other than to put it out there that "gender of character" is not one and "multiplayer shooter" is very obviously one, nor am I going to go further into the inherent dumbness of prejudging things based on principles rather than actually what it is. I absolutely agree what with the dearth of games out there that the need to be selective (and even sometimes dismissive) of games is a necessity. In particular this year for some reason where everyone decided to just drop every franchise on our laps. Hell, I know there are tons of games I would like to play that i just cannot right now.
@boldlyfumblin
@boldlyfumblin 7 жыл бұрын
Richard Smuts Hmm. Maybe part of the problem then is that you seem to think that there are objective reasons someone makes a subjective decision to experience a form of entertainment. I can't see any inherent reason why you've drawn a line between those two reasons there; ultimately my reason for following one over the other just boils down to which effects my experience in a more positive way. Remember we're purely talking about an individual's decision to play a game, he's not attempting to present a review or anything else.

Hey Ian, there is an old game about camping. I think it's called Delta Force(?). I played it when I was a pre-school. I remember it had huge desert maps, and I played multiplayer with my brother and uncle in LAN parties. It's all about who can find the other person first and snipe him. The more you move the easier you are to be spotted. It' kinda like the End boss fight in MGS3. It was really fun.

Steins;Gate's first half of the game makes the second half so amazing. The contrast is VITAL to the piece as the whole, and makes you feel for every character, especially Okabe (The character's perspective you play as). SG should be looked at as a whole, not 2 different parts. I too thought the beginning was slow, but after sleeping on it like Huber usually does, I appreciated it immensely. The anime is great too, but adding Okabe's perspective to the story (which the game does) is so important to it overall.

I hard quit Okami a month ago after 26 hours. For the first 20 hours it was the most beautiful and delightful game I have ever played. Then, my brain did a 180 and I got immediately tired of the gameplay loop and by the time I reached the snowed in wrecked ship, there was nothing left in that game that was keeping me engaged. I don't even feel remorse, I was forcing myself through my last hour and I hated every second of it.

what a weird thing but I can understand this. The game really loses much of its beauty because of the sense of impending doom by the end, but i really thought the ending was so satisfying that it was worth it. Really it's the most satisfying ending i ever got in 15 years of gaming. In a way that's a bit bad cause i think the ending is so final that we won't ever have a sequel that can make sense

For the camping thing Metal Gear Online for MGS4 Survival mode did kinda of what you guys were describing everyone has stealth camo and has motion detectors so if you move it pings your location. So everyone is pretty much camping the whole time moving gives away your position. At the end of the match the level barriers close in on the center of the map forcing everyone to meet in the middle. Super tense and fun. God I miss MGS4 MGO.

Ian I think your Easy Update gameplay episodes /can/ be some of the best, but I think people dislike when it's just like any old Let's Play. So your most recent one with Ben, or the one where you and Huber play that sound-based horror game, are really some of the best, because they bring something really fun to the table. Then again, my favourite will probably always be the real-time trip to Fatburger.

To expand upon Ian's game idea, Camping--each player should have a small area where they are hunkered down, and they can move around within that small space at their own peril. Every player is within sniper range of all other players on map, but the environment is thick with plants, making it hard to see others unless the sun reflects off the scope lens or players move around too much. Then, every once in a while, the game teleports a player to a new random location that will either put them at an advantage or in more danger of getting spotted. Firing would give your location away, of course, so even when you spot other players, you might not want to take the shot just yet. Someone make this game happen! Sounds fun!

Kyle and Huber simply solved the ancient mystery of why most stealth games suck whereas a few other ones don't. they did it in a breeze then moved along as if nothing happened. the amount of pro in this group is too damn high!

Really good episode thanks guys, though I did find Ian's comments a bit inflammatory, like he was looking for something to be offended by, which i found to be a bit strange and unnecessary, never the less great episode guys.

Xenoverse 2 is my favorite DBZ game of all time. My biggest complaint with the first game was that turning Super Saiyan drains your ki, which makes it hard to stay transformed for longer than a minute. In XV2, your ki doesn't drain, but rather it takes longer to regenerate. It's as Ben said, it's as close to the show as any DBZ game has ever felt.

First I want to start by saying I love it when the episodes are longer. Secondly, I was thinking about getting Battlefield 1 at one point and Titanfall 2 at another only to realize FF15 was so close to its launch that I put them on the back burner. After this episode I think I may have to get Titanfall 2 asap.

Played 4 FPS's this year (DOOM, Overwatch,Titanfall2 and Battlefield 1) it's between TF2 and Overwatch for me excellent shooters with lots of variety. I want to pick up Call of Duty Legacy Edition as i want to play MW1 again and the IW campaign is supposedly excellent. Great show guys interesting discussions

Huber, if you go up to the auction in the Paris mission 47 will use the Tobias Reaper alias as well. It's a nice nod to the older games. I love the new Hitman, it really feels like they realised what people like about those games and brought that back into focus. We don't want The Bourne Identity, we want careful planning and assassinations. But most of all we want choice, and the new Hitman game excels at that. There are so many cool ways of killing your targets.

Ghillie suits are very real and in order to become a sniper, you must be proficient in you using a ghillie suit. They're not pre-made either. They make them from whatever environment they're in.

For those of you that continue to be triggered by Ian all the time, know that Ian will never change because you angrily and hatefully want him to, just like you won't change because the EZA community desperately wants you to. Ian will happily continue to be Ian, which is fine by most of us. Your hate, however, will drive you into an early grave. Hate and anger are poisons which will ultimately change everything that happens to you. Picture you, seethingly typing out your vitriolic, slur-studded screeds each time Ian appears on your screen, while Ian is somewhere being happy, making music, having fun with his friends, and being respectful towards everyone he meets because he's true to himself and his beliefs. Who wins? Certainly not you. You're on the wrong side of history, desperately fighting the tide, which will continue to crash upon you until you either relent and change or you drown. In the end, what has Ian really done to you, personally? Stole from you? Insulted you specifically? Ate your food? Fucked your girlfriend? No, he didn't do any of that. He just triggered you by merely questioning whether or not something might be disrespectful towards someone or a group of people. Reassess your priorities, lads, if a person you've never met is triggering you this hard. You guys and someone like Zarna Joshi are two sides of the same coin. By being terrible repugnant creatures, you won't change anyone... quite the opposite, actually. The people you hate will only dig in their heels to spite you. You won't win.

Going with the hard quit question, is there any games you've hard quit and ended up coming back and then really loving it? I do this quite a lot. I have a tendency to quit games early, but then play a 2nd (or sometimes 3rd) time and get really addicted to it and some times become my favorite games.

For camping the FPS you need a grid and coordinates announcement like in battle royale where every so long certain parts of the map become kill zones.

What? The Neverending Story, Labyrinth, Legend, Dark Crystal all hold up. I seriously watch each one on an annual basis (at least). I do remember thinking they didn't hold up the first time I watched them after the big span between watching them as a child and watching them as an adult. But I gave them another chance and saw them with different perspective and they are all very good.
