VIDEO NOTE: 1. Accidentally said Mathieson filmed Saving Private Ryan. That was actually Janusz Kaminski, just a small error in that part of the script I didn't catch. That small section should corrected in the video here soon. 2. I got tunnel vision with the release dates being the same as the release date for gladiator 2. Except it was the home movie release date. Gladiator was released in May 2000. My bad! As always, thanks for letting us know if we missed on any details so we can correct them!

It's basically the chaotic group project that somehow ended up with the highest grade. Let this be an example of you can create something truly awesome by improvising without a plan. Although it’s usually more misses than hits. Ridley seems to have caught lightning in a bottle with this and Alien 1979, while we know how the rest turned out 😂

Yeah, I don't think this is necessarily something anyone should emulate 😅 Honestly amazing they even got it done and then to win all the Oscars for it is crazy 😅

This is why I respect (and would work) with The Coen Brothers. Everything is planned out to an F'ing T before filming, right down to the shots. Follow what we agreed on. No discussion on the set. Streamlined 100%.

Honestly, I don't think there are a lot of directors that could pull off something like Gladiator. And even the good ones, I doubt, would have a high percentage success rate doing it this way lmao.

No mention anywhere of the Legendary Oliver Reed... Who walked off with every scene he was in and Russell crowe disappeared into the background. '' 'The line You sold me a QUEER giraffe is iconic... A fitting last film for the Amazing Reed..

John Mathieson said they shot it at ASA 200. That's quite an achievement !

Considering how chaotic the production was, the fact that it became beloved when it came out and won Best Picture at the Oscars is something to marvel at.

John Mathieson was the DP on Saving Private Ryan? Not Janusz Kaminski?
@FrameVoyager10 күн бұрын
Hmmm... Yeah looking at that part now. I think we missed a section In our script. It was supposed to mention the Spielberg connection to gladiator and his long time cinematographer Janusz influence on it. Thanks for catching that, I'll cut this section out 😅
