I built a BBQ island out of steel studs and I used a clamp to hold them together when I put in a self taping screws, worked great and got them really tight but you had a good trick!!

Haha yea had to figure something out, if my clamps were stronger I would have been good

Great videos of your build! Some questions: 1. What do you plan to use for the inside surfaces of your shower? FRP...or tile...or? 2. Do you have a video of the finished shower 3. Do you a layout of your design with dimensions? I will be watching all of them.. Al

Hey Al! I am almost done the shower now. We decided to go with FRP board on top of hydroban foam board since it’s so light. (I do think tile would be easier to install). If ya wanna see more real time check out our insta. I am hoping to finish the shower video in a few weeks. I don’t have a layout yet, maybe soon!

I know I'm late to the party but thanks for the video. Was wondering how I'm going to pull off the shower wall against the van wall. Looks great🙏

We are embarking on building our wet bath in couple of days. I’ve this video so many times and still scared that we won’t be successful, lol!!! How much room do you allow for piping?
@MathersOnTheMap
@MathersOnTheMap 4 жыл бұрын
you got this!!! we ran our piping in the 2-1/2 inch plumbing and about an inch and a half along the wall (reflectix) of the van.

Just came across your channel! Great work so far, but I did have a question.. what are you drilling the vertical studs to? & what size screws did you use?
@MathersOnTheMap
@MathersOnTheMap 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I am drilling the vertical studs directly into van's frame. I just make sure I felt around and ensured I had solid support in the frame to screw in. I used Malco #7's 1/2 ich, for securing the studs together and to the van. I put our affiliate link in the description if you want to get it from there! I originally bought 100 from Home Depot but went through 100 in no time, so bought the pack of 1,000 and don't need to worry about making another trip!

I would think that the factory shower door would dictate the dimensions of the shower. Is that what you did?

We love watching your content! It has been SO helpful in our own van build. We’re currently starting work on our bathroom. We are using steel studs for the bathroom and feel a bit confused about them still. Is there a difference in the steel studs you use as the top/bottom plate and the vertical studs, or are they all the same? Also ours we got at Lowe’s have holes for routing wires/pipes through them, but I noticed yours don’t. Do you have any thoughts? Thank you!
@MathersOnTheMap
@MathersOnTheMap 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I am no expert with steel studs, but I think they're basically all the same I believe I wouldn't sweat the differences. Best of luck with the build

@@MathersOnTheMap awesome thanks! So does that mean you used the same steel stud for your top and bottom plates as your vertical studs?

These are different steel studs than what HD or Lowe's has. Where did you get it?
@MathersOnTheMap
@MathersOnTheMap 4 жыл бұрын
Got them at HD or Lowe’s haha but I guess different areas have different manufactures (they’re basically all the same)

If I may comment, 2 1/2" steel studs may be OK in a house because wall thickness does not really effect the available living space. In a Class B, especially if you add 1/2" plywood on both sides of the wall, your final wall thickness will become 3 1/2". When compared to a 5/8" or 3/4" good quality baltic birch wall, the loss of space is quite significant.

That’s a fair point! I think one side would require a gap of 2-3 inches to fit in your plumbing and to run any wires. We’re installing a natures head toilet which has a inch or inch and a half exhaust tube that we’re goin to run through the floor. Either way the steel studs definitely take up more space! Some say it’s safer in the event of a car accident though (pray that never happens) but who knows 🤷🏼‍♂️

Wowwwww Great videos guys, but the audio mixing is atrocious. Your vocal track is so quiet, then your intro music is deafening! Hope you can rectify this in post production on future vids! Happy adventuring!🙌
