The notion that we shouldn’t investigate seems a little like the Allegory of the cave.
@ImHeadshotSniper

of course we should investigate anything we're curious about. the only issue i have about this "UFO" idea is that people immediately contribute something that the military doesn't know exactly what it is as "extraterrestrial beings"... of course we shouldn't rule it out, but to even think for a second that ANYTHING you may see is aliens is an INCREDIBLE stretch. there are many potential LOGICAL explanations (not involving Aliens -- See "Lemmino"'s video on the "Extraordinary until proven otherwise") that people throw out BEFORE ALIENS because there isn't enough information about those OTHER theories to totally confirm them. (PRIMARILY BECAUSE THE FOOTAGE TAKEN IS ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL, SIMILAR TO BIGFOOT FOOTAGE.) all i'm saying is that throughout history, there have been many accounts of unexplainable things that happened, but it's interesting how in the age of capturable video and audio, that the ONLY "evidence" for such an idea is evidence similar to bigfoot. it is CERTAINLY an "object" (which doesn't actually leave out the possibility of a lens flare on the automatically rotating/moving camera that all footage was taken from)

Its ALOT like the cave allegory. If non-human intelligence is here, it literally means humans are completely ignorant of the most important thing we should know about. I really think movies on this subject like the Truman show, Matrix, I-land, Dark City, etc etc theres alot of them - might be giving us intentional hints. Only maybe ofc, but this issue is that big.

Many years ago in Michigan at my home, late in the day, I had a triangle shaped craft go slowly over my house traveling northwest. I literally looked away several times because I thought , initially , I was seeing things. However, it just remained in the sky moving away quietly until it was out of sight. To this day , my family thinks I was seeing things that were not their. Why has nobody questioned why the military themselves has just sat on this data for so long seemingly doing nothing about it? Could it be they understand it is just natural phenomenon that isn't a threat so there is no need to expend resources on it? Nope, must be aliens with unexplainable technology (that can totally be explained as natural phenomenon). That is the most reasonable answer that fits the facts and data, yup. In the past I used to find this hilarious, I was laughing with the sceptics about the UFO grifters speculating about ancient aliens and stuff like that. But for me it would all change when an institution like the US military is officially acknowledging these sightings. They have one of the most diligent technological surveillance and staff that's trained and used to give reports. I'm really curious about that report and if these physically impossible sightings are in it, maybe that would be a game changer about how we perceive ourselves and the universe and talk about UFOs.

Ugh, still a terrible quote. The idea that we ever thought the earth was flat is a myth started by Victorian textbooks. Flat earth has pretty much always been a fringe theory. The oldest Globe dates to the 15th Century prior to Columbus and is round. Renaissance maps depicted the Earth as round. Navigating by sun or stars both required an understanding of latitude. The use of sundials from antiquity to the modern era also requires an understanding of latitude to make them function. In the middle ages, the globus cruciger, a sphere with a cross on top was used to represent Christ's dominion over the orb of the world. Atlas is depicted as holding a sphere representing the earth throughout Roman times. Pythagoras not only mathematically proved the earth was round but correctly calculated its circumference around 500 BC. Even in pre-history, ancient structures with astronomical significance such as Stonehenge or Newgrange belie an understanding of astronomy and latitude that would have required the knowledge of a round earth.
@peterpike
@peterpike 3 жыл бұрын
Other than the fact that hardly anyone believed the Earth was flat, even as far back as 1500 BC. The Greeks calculated the size of the Earth pretty closely based on it being a sphere. The myth that Columbus was trying to prove the world was round was actually an invention of Washington Irvine's book "A History of the Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus" in 1828. During Columbus's time, everyone believed the Earth was round. The only real debate was on how large the Earth was. Columbus thought the world was much smaller than it actually was, which is why he thought he had reached Asia when there was an entire continent and the world's largest ocean still between him and Asia.

The sad thing is that so many people think that expressing your opinion is the same as telling others what they should think. We are all different and have different experiences, and come to our own conclusions. Just because someone holds an opinion that's different to their own doesn't make the person bad, or stupid.
@xmtxx

Nah, telling your opinion expose you to people calling out BS, and expose how bad your thinking is. Ockham's razor is still very good. In france we have GEIPAN, which is an organisation that inspect UFO sighting. Every claim has been throughly debunked. Turns out people are very very bad at identifying things in the sky. Heck, people call the police when there is a city wide electricty outage, because they can see stars in the sky and they don't know what it is. Sometimes, it's reflection in the window, though which they took a photo a the sky. The problem with Fran is not the idea she is throwing, it's her method. Before talking about multiple dimension, or very fast moving (impossible to reproduce by human technology) entities, you weed out all the obvious explanations (that's what ockham razor do). Which she didn't do at all. And it shows, she is biased with it. That's why lot of people redirected her to thunderfoot. Because it's what he did, and came to very plausible conclusions. He even demonstrated that one of the object, was not moving at multiple mach speed, but a few km/h. She do lacks a sound scientific approach on this.

Oh for fuck's sake... No! What's actually ''irksome'' is to read relatively smart/practical people concluding that it could be ''little green men'', or implying that the answer could be something _''terrifying'',_ instead of concluding that the most likely answer is that it's something boring, and from earth. This is the kind of stuff that makes decent scientists look like complete morons for even stepping a toe towards THE MOST UNLIKELY answer. Because the vast majority of the general populous are idiots... and, because they're such a large voting block, they're also the people who make all our lives a living hell by making it near impossible to do legitimate scientific work. And this is the kind of thing that they use against us, because, once the answer finally comes, when it's proven beyond all doubt that the answer is something mind-numbingly boring, and not aliens from another world, those scientist end up looking like morons, and then those idiots starts questioning that scientist's legitimate work, and the work of scientist everywhere (because it's human nature to lump things together - _''Well, if this so-called scientist thought it was aliens, ALL scientists must have thought that'')._

Even in the official inquiries and official reports, people react poorly when shown this compelling evidence. Not to sound tin-hat, but I think a lot of it is that it makes them scared or uncomfortable: it's a LOT to have to process, to be fair. The fact that the better/more official the report or analysis, like Fran's here, often the more strongly it's resisted, helps that lol.

We're also encountering quantum mechanics which fully permeates, on a fundamental level, the classical realm, and which is apparently *adeterministic* (as far as we can tell.) We don't know why quantum phenomena consistently want to decohere into observing classical patterns, and we don't know why the classical space isn't more permeated by quantum phenomena than it is, but regardless of these it seems that it should be much harder to be a positivist or a hard determinist today than in the past few centuries when we could, say, convince ourselves that the cosmos was like a great clockwork construction of definite form or dimension or whatever. People will still want really definite answers or have their common sense rebel at the notion that things like spatial orientation/definite location and causality might reach an end to their relevance or necessity in understanding the world, but that's a problem of our expectations or capacities for authenticity in encountering what the world is apparently presenting us with. The desire or pursuit of knowledge shouldn't balk at being presented with something it doesn't immediately recognize or know how to make sense of in a way that's comfortable sitting alongside our other assumptions or preferences.

So if we've got the universe "figured out" and an observation doesn't fit the model, tendency especially at the higher end of the academic scale, is to throw out the observation. This has been easy for most of the last century because most of those observations and the observers lacked credibility. Now what?

If everyone on the planet actually looked at what evidence we have, that would change and I don't doubt that for a second. Something of intelligent design is on/around our planet. 11 million reported sightings of UFOs in the last 50 years, how many more millions like yourself that went unreported? You knew it wouldn't fit comfortably with some of your subscribers. Thank you for your honesty and bravery in doing so. In the 1990's on the north Kent coast, UK, On a cloudless starry night, I saw something, silent, ethereal and graceful pass just a few hundred feet above my head which did not match with the profile of any other sky born vessel known to me. I told very few people about it for fear of being disbelieved. Not long after, a friend from the Balkans (hundreds of miles away) described in English (not their first language) their own recent encounter with a UFO. I had not at this point described exactly what I had seen but what my friend related matched exactly with my own sighting - This to me proved to be the ultimate verification.

I know that not only I witnessed a craft fly over, but my 10 year son and wife did also. My son actually pointed it out, I was driving, and we were about several feet away from pulling into our parking spot in our apartment complex. I quickly pulled in, jumped out to get a good look and as I did, this triangle shape craft flew just over us and was steady flying west. It was a super dark black color, it was pretty big (way bigger than what any drone would be), and I shit you not, it made ZERO noise the whole time we had eyes on it. It was about 8-10 stories high up, and I was certain I have never seen anything like this ever before. I had to ask my son and wife if they just saw what I saw, and both did, and I asked my son to describe to me what he saw. He described it the same as my own eyes did to my brain. A strange thing witnessed by us three, and never was able to fully identify it. Definitely a cool moment for both my son and I.

In this case, you would say that you won't believe in this alien stuff unless and until there is sufficient evidenice. At that point, your confidence level would be 100%.
