That is a very elitist and out of touch comment. Hip-hop/rap is a valid art form in its own right. Just because you do not listen to it does not mean it is beneath you. I am a classical musician (a horn player) and I agree that we need to shed light on lesser known works, particularly those by women and people of colour, but that does not mean we blame other types of music for classical works being unknown. The reason the classical music world is seen as snooty and elitist if because of people making comments exactly like yours.
