Autoroute A9 through Montpellier, France

Just drove there 2 weeks ago, on the way back from Spain. Remember the old route, was there during a bus trip in 2004, very good that it was replaced by this new motorway. Thanks for the video, greetings from a fellow road tripper and creator from Germany!

The numbering of A709 is a bit weird. Usually, France puts the number of the parent route first on branch routes (e.g. A719, A750).

original idea was A9a and A9b. they could have gone with metropolitan road M113 (for the N113 it replaces) or M9 (as A9's metropolitan spur)

It whatever ingeniers likeness. Eg : The original project of A15 was to go from Paris to Le Havre but the projet was cancelled. The actual A15 was opened, the original A15 was renamed A150, but the branch highway A1501 untouched during an unknown set of time when it was renamed to A151. Another eg: when the expressway for N27 was opened, the original path was renamed N2027, then déclassed as D927, but another path that was déclassed in 2022 was renamed N2027.
