I've driven this road several times, Perpignan (Perpinyà in catalan) is a city I like to visit from time to time. Thanks for sharing, good video!!

I travelled on this autoroute several years ago ( 1995! ) From Perpignan to Rome to come back to Italy. This landscape is stamped in my mind...I love it. Wind, Sun, Adventure, ...the music in the video is perfect!

Great video, please also film the other direction towards the pyrenées. There is nothing like seeing the Mediterranean for the first time behind Montpellier. Have a good day.

Another great video. How would you rate the French highways compared to other systems in Europe ? Thanks.

The autoroutes are one of the best in Europe. They're expensive, but you get what you pay for: free-flow traffic (except Black Saturday), good pavement, few roadworks.

11:45 Surprised Bordeaux isn't on the sign for A61. Sure it's far but it's a big city. Is it that much less important than Lyon or Marseille, which appear on many signs hundreds of kilometers before?
@EuropeanRoads2 жыл бұрын
Bordeaux is smaller than Toulouse (both the city municipality and metropolitan area). Bordeaux used to be a relatively small city before suburbanization occurred. So I think Toulouse as a larger city takes precedence at this point. Bordeaux is signed from the A6-A89 interchange near Lyon though, that's pretty far away.

@@EuropeanRoads In the french road signage, all cities/agglomerations or locations are classified into 5 levels defined by their population or importance (i.e Roissy CDG, or Mt St Michel). Level 5 is the highest (over 400,000 inhabitants). Green signs on non-motorway roads are levels 3 to 5. Toulouse and Bordeaux are both level 5. Therefore, Bordeaux cannot be the main control city, because the route to Bordeaux passes through Toulouse. On the A89, Clermont-Ferrand is only a level 4-city. Bordeaux and Lyon can therefore be signed all the way on A89, because there is no other level 5-city on the route. Montpellier is also a level-4 metropolitan area, which explain Barcelona and Toulouse are signed in Orange.

Very nice motorway to drive, but a lot of lorries and a traffic nightmare during summer holidays espacially when you come from Toulouse.

Oddly enough (or maybe not?), this part of France looks quite "Iberian" to me. Some moments when surrounded by the vineyards I felt like I was in La Rioja, other parts would pass for Valencia or Catalonia.

A9 is also named 'La Catalane' on this stretch. There used to be many autoroute name signs in France but most seem to have disappeared.

I am from Perpignan. This region is also called north Catalonia. At 4:39 there is a monument on the left. It's the northern limit of what we call the Catalan countries

Good route, the French Mediterranean is very similar to that of Spain.

one day come visit Poland again - lots of things have changed and are yet to change in 2022 ;) driving there is much better than 10-15 years ago, although the drivers are still mad and reckless ;p

Poland is on my 'to do list'. Unfortunately Polish scenery is not very interesting among most motorways.
@RooiGevaar192 жыл бұрын
@@EuropeanRoads you're right - most motorways are boring, also most of Poland are plains with no spectacular natural features. I recommend southern expressways, like S3, S52, A4, or the famous S7 Zakopianka after they build the tunnel. They opened S2 and S8 through Warsaw as wel, these two roads have lots of interesting facts to tell about. Also in my national home Kashubia there are some scenic roads, e.g. 216 through Hel Peninsula.

¡Lástima la extorsión tirabuzinística que sufrimos los europeos para usar esta carretera que, supuestamente, es nuestra!¡Viejo orden mundial, ya!
