The fact that there are so many names in the depth chart is mostly related to the insane number of games french players have to go through. Toulouse, La Rochelle and Bordeaux have to play between 30 and 35 games per seasons accounting for top 14 and european cup, add to that 11 games for the French national squad (of course there are a few club game without international players during the 6 nations). It’s also the main reason why i see the french squad underperforming vs its individual talent (arguably top 3 world talent in a handful of positions: 1,2,4,5,6,8,9,10,11,14,15); tired bodies/ injuries and lack of long time periods for national squad training. On the upside, top 14 also provides incredible talent as it is now so competitive, and we have been blessed with a lot of u18/u20 talent in the last 5 years. The second factor for the depth is that it is a post world cup hangover year and galthié has to lay the foundations for the next one and try new things

@michelnourry430511 күн бұрын
Tbh that depends on who is the Top 14 final - as Toulouse and Bordeaux supply 35-40% of the team - if either is out at the semi stage suddenly you have 5-6 potential starters available. The French B in the last 2 years split a series v Argentina and should have beat the Wallabies. There isn’t any disrespect towards NZ it’s just you have to remember who PAYS the players and thats the clubs and the Top 14 is the PRIZE (even above the Champions Cup)

Too many changes? No I don't think so. It's the perfect time to experiment and try new combinations. I'm pretty sure every coach would love to have that much choice available. IMO Galthie Is doing the right thing as he is not focusing on world ranking but on building for the future. All these youngsters bloodied are a good thing and it will build a strong side over time. The 15 players difference with Scotland is quite impressive tho. It's almost a complete team difference with the next team using more players and they still rank 4th with not too many losses overall. I can see how Galthie is building to try to avoid depending on Dupont too much which was their mistake imo in the world cup.

So, yes, the "summer team" is always experimental because Glathié gives most players time to recover from the season, so change was expected on that front for sure. However, this is a year where we had a lot of unavailabilites. Antonio for instance, was initally planned only as a substitute for 6N and should not have played Autum nations. But viruses and injuries decided otherwise. The 10 position is another story entirely where, while being a great player, Jalibert did not seem to fit the expectations of managment in terms of complementarity within the team and they prefered to have a 15 playing there. And finally, some of the team had to change because this was the end of a RWC cycle and not everyone went trough it unharmed. I think we should see a way more stable 2025, summer aside =)
@zisssssou11 күн бұрын
France has depth, but the "players used" stat is obvious as France is always making large players reviews for the June tests because of Top 14 finals... Yes it will be "B" players in NZ tour 2025, but it could be stacked with ex-U20 world champs (Gailleton, Athissogbe, Auradou, Nouchi, Tuilagi, Jauneau, Massa...) surrounded by Le Garrec, Fickou, Couilloud, Grandidier, Willemse, Vincent, Macalou, Woki, Bamba or Barlot regarding actual Top 14 rankings.

Hard to properly analyze in terms of depth building indeed, as some players came to fill the gaps during the summer tour. And some others like Lamothe or Bochaton never got the opportunity to play while they are probably ranked higher than other who could get their first cap. Not surprising that Galthié asked to the top14 clubs to send more players for training camps.
@brunolopez861410 күн бұрын
Thx for the french subtitles although i don't use them because you have a very good pronunciation in English and in French too to be honest ( player's name).

Dupont playing 10 during the Autumn Series was due to the 6/2 split on the bench: for the backs, Le Garrec as 9 and a versatile player able to play full back, winger. Ramos shifting 10 to 15, Dupont 9 to 10. That is why Jalibert was not on the bench.
@TwoCentsRugby11 күн бұрын
It'll be interesting to see if they give him more time at 10 in the future - might make it easier for Galthié to pick the 6/2

Mark, as a French fan, I want to really emphasize how much I appreciate the care you put in pronouncing French names correctly. I'm sure it's not easy, but I assure you, it's appreciated. I will say Tixeront is pronounced with a "ks" sound as opposed to a "s" sound which you went with, but other than that small nitpick, I doubt there's any English-speaking KZbinr who gets it as right as you do. I'll add that I'd genuinely be interested in helping out with French subtitles (even just reviewing the AI-generated ones for obvious mistakes) if you want to.
@TwoCentsRugby10 күн бұрын
No worries about the nitpick man - that's useful info - appreciate it😁 Hopefully the AI subtitles were at least mostly accurate. I asked the AI to translate the English > French. But yeah man any help will always be welcome
