Once again very interesting and good job, Tyler. Thanks! Your comparaison makes it obvious. I wonder what game is Universal playing... France Gall's songs are huge in french music history. And they NEVER released those gems in stereo (in Europe at least). And since a couple of years they removing all of it from Spotify and other plateforms. We're lucky to have France Gall's fans like you. 🥰

@@noflaye5536 I hope you enjoy! After listening to the entire album. This 2018 remaster seems to be a DIRECT recording of the master tapes! These are the ORIGINAL mixes from the 1960's I can hear the tape hiss, and occasionally brief tape drop-outs. This is extremely surprising, I'm not sure how they released this without putting their grubby hands on the mixing board. This is probably the best release we ever could have hoped for. The dynamic range is incredible!! I am going to import all 5 SHM-CDs from Japan. I will post a video replacing the Longbox version with these new versions. Should I use the stereo records to replace the mono songs on these CDs? Or should I post a video with all of the songs from these new versions?

That would be wonderful! Regarding your question, it's a tough one. I would say you could upload the SHM-CDs without replace by stereo. So everyone could pick his version. Plus : I remember N'Écoute Pas Les Idoles LP stereo version was weaker although your album was brand new and you gave it the same treatment than the one you gave to the others (that were perfect). So I would be interested to listen to the work done on SHM-CDs on this precise song (that I adore). Thanks in advance. 🙂

Hello Tyler! Thank you for posting this very interesting video. France Gall is the best thing that has ever come out of France, she's up there with cheese, wine and Napoleon. I knew very little about her recordings before she teamed up with Michel Berger, but have now bought all 5 SHM-CD's from Japan (thanks to you) and was very lucky to find a still sealed cassette of Ses Grands Succes (from Spain) so, as you can see quite hooked.

Whoa! That is super cool! Unfortunately I’ve only heard the 1968 SHM-CD. As per the usual, I’m short on cash. I’m super interested about how the others sound. Would you consider sending me FLAC files?

@@TylerHartman I ordered them separately a week apart (due to the high cost and possible import tax) and only got "1968" so far, the others are expected in the coming week (depending on the sluggishness of the Post office) Baby Pop next and then the three others in one batch. I'll be happy sending you the Flac files when I get them all. And if you are interested, I can try to transfer the cassette as well, I'm a bit curious on the sound quality of the tape? I don't have a cassette player, but borrowed my mums cassette deck a few months ago (nothing fancy, just a 1990's Sony two head single cassette deck) and was surprised how warm and rich it sounded, never knew cassettes could sound that good. However, not sure how this 1974 tape will sound though, so a bit excited to try it, when it arrives. I'll be in touch!

@@TylerHartman I finally got all the CD's, but unfortunately got a huge import tax on the last parcel, so much that it took, some of the joy away. However getting over that now and are enjoying the great sound. The second album is slightly different from the rest, as it doesn't have the fold over on the cover sleeve, but I guess they are exact copies of the original records. I haven't got around to test the cassette yet. WOW! You got an 8-track, that is cool! I will check out you discord server. Thank you.

Good job ! If you like sixties french music, there's a lot to do with original stereo's version lps ( like France Gall japanese's ones) while cds are mono only...

It’s a nice remaster, but songs like Laisse tomber les filles sound a lot better in the Longbox version… The vocals have this very subtle delay effect, and the SHM-CD version got rid of it. Her voice sounds nice and clearer, but it was fine at it was in my opinion.

Hello Jun, Tyler compares two recordings of the same song by France Gall. One recording from 2001 and one from 2018. Check if you can hear a difference. Maybe it is not possible to do this with a smartphone without headphones. I will try it with my hi-fi system with headphones. Have fun!
