U-S Secretary of State Madeleine Albright piled pressure on Israeli and Palestinian leaders to make key decisions on peace.
However, speaking after a meeting with French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin, she said Washington would not dictate terms for Israel's troop withdrawal from the West Bank.
This was the end of a four day visit to France for Madeleine Albright as she arrived for a ninety-minute working breakfast with French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin.
Her tour followed back-to-back meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
She'd attempted to ply on the pressure by instructing the Israelis to come-up with a credible plan for troop withdrawal from the West Bank by mid-month.
But she says both sides must do a lot to revive the Middle East peace process.

'First of all, I've had my meetings with Prime Minister Netanyahu and Chairman Arafat and as you know I'll be meeting with them again upon my return from Africa. There is nothing new since my meetings and basically I'm carrying on the American approach to the Middle East peace process and there is not any joint action or anything like that. We are just comparing notes.'

Albright re-affirmed her commitment to getting a solution to the West Bank problem.
SOUNDBITE: (French)
'Me, I believe that both sides want to achieve a lot. Though, some of the Israelis have presented a plan for further F-R-D. And as I said,on the other hand it's very important for the Palestinians to do what they're supposed to do, open the security.'

Albright, who later will set off for a seven-nation African tour, met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Paris on Friday and again on Saturday, hours after meeting Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in Geneva.
Netanyahu said his government had approved the principle of a pullback but would need several more weeks to work out the
details.
Albright is expected to meet Netanyahu and Arafat again after a NATO meeting in Brussels on December 16-17.
