I think it is worth highlighting that this service will stop in December mainly because France is not allowing RENFE trains to operate in France (although they do operate with Ouigo in Spain). If there is no reciprocity then this things happen and only us loose as long SCNF continues with its monopoly.

Spain has repeatedly complained to the EU court about the obstacles that SNCF is putting in place to standardize the operation of Talgo trains (that will be operated by renfe) and its Italian counterpart. The liberalization of the Spanish market is much more advanced than the French one, which is a great shame for them. As for the interoperability between the Iberian gauge and the high-speed gauge('international'), there is no problem for us. We have convoys capable of changing the gauge in minutes. It's trivial at this point. Talgo, on the other hand, is finishing homologating its new AVRIL train that will be operated by RENFE, hopefully it will be seen on the French lines in a short time. If France does not comply with the obligation to liberalize its market, very harsh sanctions will come.
@walideg53042 жыл бұрын
Threats are not working. Sanctions ? The French market is open but it’s complicated for the competitors. It has nothing to do with some blockade it’s the opposite, SNCF Réseau (the Network subsidiary) are offering excellent rebates on the fare compared to what SNCF Ouigo is paying today to operate high speed lines but nobody is interested except Trenitalia. Trenitalia has a deal with -30 % during 5 years. And I’m not sure it’s even profitable for them… Trenitalia operates the Paris Lyon corridor the only profitable one.

Thanks for an interesting post. Have travelled on these Duplex SNCF trains from Gare de l'Est to Germany and back. Both times upper deck. In summer. I can say that I was glad of the better view, because you are higher up relative to lineside obstructions, so you do see more landscape. The air conditioning, which runs along the underside of the window and emits from a grille, was welcome. Except, it kept coming on and turning off, when really it would have been better on most of the time. One other thing about these grilles, they are full of filthy detritus, as people drop, or deliberately wedge, lids, paper, straws, etc. down them. Pretty unhygienic! I agree that they upper floor feels more cramped. A bit like Avanti West Coast's (formerly Virgin's) Pendolinos in the UK. Horribly claustrophobic, and that's just a single-decker! 😵💫

As someone who lives near Perpignan the small number of services each day means that a Perpignan/Barcelona day trip is an impossibility. So, if people round here want to visit Barcelona they simply get in the car and drive it (particularly now that tolls have been removed from the AP7 autoroute) . I occasionally drive over to Figueres-Vilafant and pick up an AVE from there. There's plenty of parking and, as I live closer to the frontier it suits me but my friends in Perpignan consider me mad! Whatever, unless the service frequency improves and the fares are reduced the general feeling here is that if the RENFE/SNCF agreement falls away then tant pis. There was much more enthusiasm when they announced the possibility of a Frecciarossa service from Perpignan to Milan but that seems to have gone cold. Problem seems to have been that the deal to take over the cross-border services by Trenitalia was discussed between Trenitalia and the Generalitat in Barcelona and not the central government in Madrid (while the Generalitat have control of Regional and Rodalies services in Catalonia they apparently don't have control over international services), so this has got bogged down in another argument between the independence-leaning government in Barcelona and the "hated" Spaniards in Madrid and could well fall apart because of it which would be a great shame. Watch this space!!

France SNCF has presented a variety of high-speed trains to custmers. However, I felt that the 2nd class seats were a little narrow, and the width of the train was also too. Isn't it possible to expand the width of the car a little more if it is a standard gauge? That way, the front and rear width can be a little more spacious. Hi, why you don't do a little tour of the arrival station like the one at the start, i think it complete the trip, from station to station. By the way, great video as always

Enquanto isso entre Portugal e Espanha não temos uma ligação ferroviária minimamente digna. Somos uma nação casada com a mediocridade de onde não queremos de maneira alguma sair.

There was a real train line through the Pyrenees (not this case) but France didn't want to maintain it. Saragosse-Toulouse line

It should hopefully re-open in the next few years. France reopened the line up to Bedous a few years ago. Spain re-opened the Canfranc station and Adif started the project to change the gauge from iberian to standard between Huesca and Canfranc. The Bedous-Canfranc work will be EU financed and might be ready by 2025-2027.

SNCF still requires masks?

I hope they introduce 3 storey trains soon. If you also had 12 coaches, that would give you effectively 36 carriages, and that would be enough to support some shops and restaurants, maybe a gym and pool, even an open terrace to enjoy a cocktail in the sun while travelling.
