There was periods where they just flat refused to take the ball so I am not so sure about that... They pretty much gave up in that second quarter, got a rocket at half time and played well for 10mins start of second half then hid again. Not as obvious as the Australia game but not something I ever thought I would see in 6N...

His body & attitude/leadership have now reached a level like never seen before (first cross kick to Attisogbe missed, second one resulted in a try with Attisogbe appologize for his first misunderstood). So enthusiastic to see what will happen next.

As a French supporter, I felt that the team appeared a bit disorganized in their attacking play. On several occasions, Dupont picked up the ball and seemed unsure of what to do, with no support around him. However, it's worth noting that they are lethal inside the 22, and their new defensive strategy-characterized by minimal contesting at the rucks-was interesting. This will be particularly intriguing to watch against Ireland.

Gros stepped up. He should be starting every game now, with that said Baille was immense off the bench. Before the red card Ntamack was defensively solid, you can clearly see the difference between him and Jalibert in that regard. Centres weren't flashy but both put in great defensive shifts. Ramos and Dupont were incredible as usual, Adritt motm for me, I feel he had a point to prove after last autumn. Roumat was a bit shaky here and there which is understandable playing out of position but needed in the line out which operated over 90% Boudehent and Cros were industrious. Wingers, not bad for an average age of 20! Bench generally quite good however Le Garrec needs his kicking boots next time.

Good video Tim. The result was not surprising. I still think France will win the 6N with a grand slam!! Gatland only has a weak squad to pick from. Dupont is a genius that no nation will keep quiet. I wish Gatland was England's head coach as I am sure he would be in his element with the depth of good players that England have!

@stephaneguichard83066 күн бұрын
Thanks again Tim ! Difficult to have an opinion… Two satisfaction points : - the result : 0 point is very rare in a 6 Nations. It's not nothing even if I'm sad for the Welsh. - the defense : France is a brick wall. This was a real weakness at the World Cup. So much so that I thought Edwards' message was no longer getting through to the players. But it’s back and that’s good news. What seems average to me is the strategy: hit until the levee breaks (thanks Led Zeppelin!) is quiet simple… too simple. I wouldn't like to be in front, but will it be enough against Ireland? And finally, we will definitely know what is Galthié's real level of hatred towards Jalibert, if he puts Ramos in 10...
@cedricpicard90166 күн бұрын
After the match, Galthie mentioned Ollivon as a role model of a guy who worked his ass off for the collective, and that´s exactly what Jalibert doesn´t do. It´s not about hatred, I don´t think Galthie hates him, but he´s made no secret he wants guys who think collective, and respect the coaches´ decisions. sure you can move Ramos at 10, and he´s proved he can do it effectively enough, but who do you then put at 15? Buros is out injured, it would be crazy to lose LBB´s attacking threat, so who else do you play at 15? I don´t think Leo Barre is world class, but he might recall him to plug that gap. Or he might move Dupont at 10, and recall either Lucu or Serin.
@jeanleveau79046 күн бұрын
Wales was inoffensive. They gave the impression that they could play hours without scoring or passing French defense.even though they had some long possession phases they have never been in position to score. French defense was very disciplined, they conceed very few penalties, very patient, most of the time they didn't contest the ball so they only had 1or 2 players in the rucks vs 4 or 5 reds. But when they have a turn over they managed to break the welsh defense. The gap between both teams was just too big, individually and collectively. Very encouraging for us (I'm French) as we usually always have problems in the opening games in the 6 nations

No matter how hard you try and hide it, it was a forward pass. Dupont throws almost a metre before the 5 metre line. The ball is caught 2 metres beyond the 5 metre line. How is it not a forward pass? Don't give me the "backwards out of the hand" nonsense. The ball travels forward. Defensive masterclass from France. A few missed opportunities in attack but nothing major. Ever since the autumn we are able to play some attack with multiple phases by targetting the first forward pod to compress the defense then we put it on the wing to break. It's a new weapon to our arsenal alongside : - the depossession strategie, kicking long and defending on the ennemie's side, ubtil they make mistake. That's how we won the Grand Chelem in 2022, and it could come in handy for matches against teams that are very good defensively and/or under a lot of rain for example. - Lethal counter attacks with an ability to punish immediately turnover balls, either directly with tries or tactically like in the first action of this match actually when ramos finds a 50-23 jyst after a turnover. So... why do people complain ? I will say this : I am convinced by France and I think we will only get better.

I think it's going to be a long hard series for Welsh fans to thole on this display. I saw a statistics graphic that revealed that Wales missed 27 tackles in the first half alone. I don't think Wales have improved at all since last year: if anything they've gone backwards from the Autumn internationals. France were very comfortable throughout and played very much within themselves. I don't think they were seriously threatened by a very ponderous Welsh attack at any point in the game. It is clear that they have plenty of gears to go up if they really have to in the upcoming matches.

@@cameronmmj9291thanks I hope we can get out of this rut soon! Huge respect to Scotland , I really want them to win the tournament this year as I really think they are the most settled team with all the players hitting their prime. They were class in the autumn against South Africa and score line didn’t reflect how close that game was. Also only home nations team to comfortably beat a hugely dynamic and powerful wallabies team. Not just saying it to sound nice but really do think Scotland at their best will beat anyone in this tournament!

French here, I agree that tactically the French team was ok, just keeping their forces for the coming steps. I'm sad for the Welshs who show courage but with no variety in attack, you can't be abble to disrupt this blue wall waiting patiently for a mistake or a give-away kick. Finally, it's not a bad news that N'Tamack is out for the coming matches, he was quiet average into the game. Ramos playing 10 could be a better solution though. Antoine Dupont is "au sommet de son art" as we say. His instant analysis, his radiography I should say of the game is unseen.

A voir.. Bon tournoi à tous, Cordialement.

I'm confused by the comment at 2:43 that France was naive. Did you mean Wales? France's defensive plan was simple. Of course I don't expect the same game plan next week...

Wales have a number of players that just shouldn't be playing test rugby. They're now playing at the level of a plucky tier 2 side in the group stage of the world cup. There's some raw ability there but I feel they have to change the coach to unlock it. But even then they're never beating France or Ireland
@EggchasersRugby7 күн бұрын
Sad to say, but in many cases, totally agree
@bujin19776 күн бұрын
No. Changing the coach is not the solution. That's the "easy option" that teams want to take - find a scapegoat, change the coach, then find that nothing changes. The problems in Welsh rugby go WAY deeper than Warren Gatland, and changing him will do nothing to solve them. There need to be fundamental changes of the management of the WRU, there needs to be a complete restructure of the game in Wales to make it more financially sound, and there needs to be much more investment in the game at grass-roots level and pathways through to the international game. If they did all that this year, Wales might start making improvements in 5-10 years. But these changes won't happen. I've lost faith in the WRU and don't expect Wales to be challenging at the top level again for a very long time.
@GRB-tj6uj6 күн бұрын
@@bujin1977 it's too easy to say that the problems run deeper than Gatland. Everybody understands that but you can still judge the performance on the field. Gatlands selection policy has been muddled. He went for youth in the Autumn but now had a squad that was older than the French one (the most terrifying statistic of the evening). Wales played an attacking system that was years behind where rugby is at the moment. They had no kicking strategy to move the heavy French pack around, opting to kick loose against the best counterattacking team in the world. The only thing that actually functioned was the set piece, and that's the thing Gatland has the least direct influence on. So changing the coach won't suddenly give them the international grade front 5 they need, but the coaching could be a lot better. And an additional problem is that the WRU already struggled to fill the stadium in the Autumn. If they continue like this this will even become worse and only increase their financial issues.

@@GRB-tj6uj Who would you put in his place?
@GRB-tj6uj6 күн бұрын
@@bujin1977 personally I would go for a younger coach with experience in European rugby because Wales need new ideas and positive energy. If I had to give a name it would be Franco Smith. He already has international experience with Italy, he knows how to develop players and does an excellent job with Glasgow.

Couple of takeaways as a Wales fan - Dan Edwards obviously came on too early in the game plan, but it looked like Thomas was still running the game from 12. We need to give Edwards the keys. Watkin being out (obviously wish him all the best) will open the door for someone else. A call up for Llewellyn...? I thought Adams was good for what little ball he saw, and Tom Rodgers was exciting. It's a massive game next week!

Yes, Aldritt got man of the match, deservedly so. I also thought Wales played well in the first 20 minutes, and had a good spell in the 2nd half, but as the french commentators said, Wales could have played til monday and not score a single point. they came close at one point, but france dug their heels on the try line and even managed to push them back a few meters. No complaints about that Ntamack red card, and I don´t see how he could get less than 3 weeks, even with his pretty good record (I think they mentioned he only had 2-3 yellows so far in his career). It´ll be interesting how France reshuffle for the England game, sure they could put Ramos at 10, but who do you then put at 15 with Buros out? Maybe moving Dupont at 10 and starting Le Garrec, that chistera to find Ntamack before the Gailleton try was just class. It was also Ramos´ 40th cap, and he celebrated it in style, becoming the 2nd top point scorer for France, trailing Michalak by 49 points now. Doubt he´ll get there by the end of the tournament, but most definitely in the autumn, if not in the summer. His territorial kicking and those 50-22 were just insane.
